It's "major" only in the sense that voting for Class President in a small midwestern high school is "major".
Usually, I don't pay attention to things like that, but in this case, we're trying to make a point. Last year, another comic called Carry On, was nom'd and won three categories- and in response, some people wrote a long screed basically accusing her of "stuffing the ballot box". How? By asking her readers to vote for her.
The Ursas are 100% popularity contest. Readers of the various works are the ones that vote. There's no committee or voting panel- if work A gets more people to vote for them than work B, they win. simple as that. We're told that the typical work listed in the Ursas get a few dozen votes- it's not a particularly prestigious award - while CO got hundreds.
So, this year, I'm stuffing the ballot box. A win carries no "weight". There's no money or publishing contract, no bag o' swag, I won't even get a good slap from Will Smith. I might get a little laser-engraved clear-plastic trophy- Carry On had to call and ask them to send it, last year- but that's about it.
Though I would be able to add "award winning" to the title of the comic.
So yeah, go and vote, if you would. TWB is in two categories, one for best webcomic, and one for best graphic story, for the Sherlock Holmes thing we did last year. You get three votes in each category, so if I might be so bold as to make a suggestion, TWB for #1, Carry On for #2, and leave the third blank.
Carry On is where I picked up the link. I also think I picked up the link to CO from TWB during the "painball" markers arc 3 years ago this week.
Full circle.
