    When it rains, it purrs

Absolutely crazy situation over the past week for me and the number of cats in my house.

About a year and a half ago my wife’s cat ran away. We had brought home a baby a couple months before and I think he didnt like not being the center of attention so he took off. She had had him since college and was really broken up about it.

We put up signs, Facebook posts, trail cams, and canvassed the woods for any sign of him, no luck. Assumed dead or taken in by an old lady without social media.

So a year and a half later she decides it’s time for a new cat for our daughter to grow up with so we got two kittens. They just got here this past Sunday and have really gotten used to the place.

Now it gets crazy - This morning we got a call from a vet office saying that someone brought a cat in, they scanned it for a chip, and it turns out our cat is not only alive, it was never more than 3 miles away from the house.

About a year ago he started showing up on a couples porch, and they took care of him as an outdoor cat since then. He had a heated outdoor box, 3 meals a day, and treats. They brought him to the vet because he recently stopped eating, and insisted he be scanned for a chip. Absolutely awesome people who were happy his owners were found.

So within a week I went from no cats to 3 cats. They haven’t met each other yet, so that will be interesting. Also, no clue what he was up to for the first 6 months missing.

Cats are such wild pets. We had to put down our cat first cat of 21 years just after our baby was born, wife is still devastated. A crazy cat story.... A few weeks after we moved into the house we bought (pretty well into the NM country), a cat kept coming to the front door. We fed him and he came inside for short times, but always wanted out. It turns out he was the previous owners cat and had traveled about 15 miles back to his home. RIP Nigel.
Also the in laws lost a cat because the neighbors gave it steak.

They are seriously crazy. This cat has lived outside for a year and a half and is currently sleeping on the couch in the same spot it always did like it never left. They either completely don’t care about anything, or seriously get into habits.

That is one wild story. Im glad you got your cat back. Mine took off once for quite a few days and I thought the coyotes got him but he showed back up.my neighbor does the same heated housing and food for like six ferral cats. God bless em, keeping these crazy cats goin.

I was sure that’s what’s happened. We have a couple of foxes roaming around.

Currently attempting to "adopt" some strays at my apartment complex. An all black cat, an all white cat, and 2 tabbys. Just leaving out kibble and water, on the back porch currently. Thinking about spending the money on a heating pad. I should put out some smelly wet food. They are all skittish as soon as they see you. Gotta let them eat in peace currently. Even sitting on the couch and not moving, and they trot off. .

      Great cat stories.
i have 2 cats, one day a cat showed up on our deck, he was sleeping on the wicker couch. Every morning we would find him sleeping there. Then one night we heard a terrible cat fight, the next morning we found all this cat hair beside my house and the cat was again sleeping outside. He let us pet him and we noticed that he had a large cut on his head. He definitely was in a fight. We got our cat cage and he walked right into it, I never thought a stray cat would do that but he did. Took him to a vet to get checked out , but he wouldn’t let the vet touch him. So we took him to the humane society. The cat had no tattoo or micro chip, but they told us they need to keep him for about 3 weeks to see if he would get claimed. During this time he got “fixed and all his shots. No one claimed him so. We got to adopt him.

I took a position up in the Arctic( Nunavut) and I was not going to bring a cat it would just not work. I asked my phone and she agreed and I found that very odd, blown away because it’s a pet and animal and mom never wanted one unless it was a lap dog. Well the next day I asked again to confirm and wondered what was up, I had forgot she had surgery that day and was still drugged up. Needless to say she had him for 13 years. Franklin
