Bike ride down to the coast guard station, plus a little loop! Beautiful day.

Upper body on Monday, benched 135lb x 8!

      Lower body yesterday, squated 265lb x 6!

PR check for bench press and deadlift next week.

Just joined MCB and saw this thread. How's the fitness coming along? And do you ever play paintball at Apocalypse? I live in the Madison area and that's the field I've been going to

Good! I was sick last week, so no workouts at all. Did workout with the trainer today to ease back into things.

I just came back to the sport after a 12 year break. I did play at Apoc back in the day, but haven't since I started playing again. I've been playing at Siege mostly.

I came back after an 18 year break myself 😄 finally proved to my wife that it was worth carrying around my Impulse and Ion all these years - saved a bunch of money to get back into it this year lol

I'll have to come over to Siege sometime and check it out, I haven't played at any other fields yet, just been dong to the one closest to home. Heading down to Chicago next month to watch the NXL event which should be a blast though - maybe that'll inspire me to drive farther to play on some fresh fields

How was it coming back after a more-than-decade-long break away from it? I was surprised at how little guns have actually changed and how big mechanical and mag-fed stuff has become. Everything had moved away from mechanical when I left the sport and now mechanical is it's own thing, and electros are rarely allowed to shoot over 10.5bps...wild to think we were shooting 20+ back in the day

I can also vouch for Siege. Good place. I'm hoping to get back down there at least once more this year.
Is Apoc still doing OK? I haven't been there in maybe a dozen years.

Yeah, it's crazy. I think it's really cool that mech has grown in popularity again. Still have my old bushy that could do 20+ on a good day, and picked up an 07 ego recently as well (along with a bunch of other goodies).

Do it! I'm usually there most Sundays and Wednesdays. I'll actually be at NXL Chicago all 3 days! I snagged a media pass and am also playing 7man mech and 3man.

Solo recovery workout this morning. Lighter weight, and I did split these into two groups and did supersets.

Squats and hip thrusts. After 10 days out for work and personal travel, it felt good to be back in the gym.

Hour with the trainer today doing upper body. Max'd bench at 170lbs. I bonked out hard though, felt like I could've done more but didn't have it in me.

Good on you for making the effort to improve your fitness level. Just curious what your diet has been like?

Thanks Murdoc555, diet has been decent. I'm focused mostly on eating fairly clean and cutting out too many empty carbs/sugars and just in general eating less. I'm trying not to hit too much deficit, as I don't want it to affect my strength training. I'm fine with slow and steady progress. This year is just about getting active again feeling better.

Last year I was in a bad place, physically and mentally. I rarely rode my bike or did anything active with Mrs. Z (she's a very active person) because I was having back problems, or just tired. It all compounded to a pretty lackluster year.

Great, the excess sugar and carbs is the first thing to cut out. I agree with your comments on calorie deficits, Im not sold on that. Too many factors, hormone imbalances, metabolism, and what not. I’ve never had luck with calorie counting/my fitness pal, just eating intuitively with getting solid macros. The best results I’ve had are doing that and regular weight lifting and boxing, 3-4 days a week. I’ve went harder, ate more strict, and the results are always short term. Check out Mark Sisson if you haven’t, he has a very realistic and manageable approach to nutrition and fitness.

Nothing special today, incline bench plus back and chest work with the trainer. Did rows and neutral grip dumbbell bench to failure.

Edit to add: been a while since I checked in on weight. Recent weigh-in was 283. Not a huge drop, but satisfying. Clothes are fitting better!

Worked with the trainer this morning, went for a squat PR, didn't get it. Only matched my previous of 6 x 265lbs. I'm upset with myself. Between bonking out of my bench pr attempt last week, and now this, seems I've got some focusing to do.

Solo workout this morning. Kind of a de-load and volume day.

                            Weigh in: 284
