I'm in better shape at 40 than I was at 20

wish i was kidding.. im not..
2 years ago i was given an opportunity to "leave the workforce"
1 year ago, i realized that my main excuse for why I wasn't in better shape was no longer relevant ("im too busy with work to live in the gym" id always say)
I can go into details about it if anyone is interested, but i started easy and kept progressively making things harder. I feel like i started at about 215-220 last year. im down to 193-198 pretty consistently now ive also gone from a belt free 36, to needing a belt with 34's (im 6"2 for anyone curious)

*DISCLAIMER* I had cosmetic surgery earlier this year*DISCLAIMER*
in may, my wife and i decided to get out ahead of some of the grind and have actual liposuction on "those spots that will take years to get smaller", for me it was right above my hips, ive always been self-conscious about my "love handles" that I've had as far back as i can remember.. this also had an effect psychologically in that "I have now spent money on this body to make it look nice, I had better keep it that way now, cause I never want to do that again"

at the end of july, I had a friend who is a personal trainer express an interest of working with me, at the beginning of august, I took them up on it. i didn't take any pictures until i was a few weeks in and thought i was looking better, but here's one as of yesterday (dont mind the emojis, i just feel weird blasting shirtless pics WITH my face on a paintball forum visible to "the whole damn internet")

    yes I'm also THAT pale..

if anyone wants to know more about what im doing, ask away.. happy to spill my guts

Happy for you. I got to get more muscle. I'm too skinny. Not sure if it's even possible. .

I can't eat enough protein.. 200 grams a day is A LOT.. and eventually you'll get to the point you HAVE to keep eating a crazy amount of food or you risk getting smaller... I will admit i got lucky with genetics in having a good metabolism, so far the most ive dealt with was not eating enough and just having NO energy the next day

Well, good. Enjoy it while you can. From experience, I'd say you have two more decades before asking yourself "WTF happened?"

I got an excercise bike as part of a wellness credit from my work and haven't looked back. Running circles around guys half my age is my new favorite part of the game. Keep it up!

Bike is a big game changer.. I got a road bike in 2015 and that's definitely helped set a building block for me.

The ability to do multi-hour long cardio sessions without making my joints hurt was a big deal

You look great man! Don't fall into the appearance trap. Goals are one thing but fitness is a marathon. Unless you are deciding to try and compete but that is a whole different ball game.

                  thanks!

I don't have any direct intention of competing, but I have the legs for it. I know I won't have to work quite as hard as the other guy. but I have some friends that DO compete and show prep sounds like an absolute pain in the ass. so i can always ask them about it if i want to be reminded why its something i dont want

I was a national level athlete at 25 at 192 lbs. I look better today at 53 and 185 lbs.

In between there were car accidents, surgeries, and the general indignities of aging. Got up to 214, and not in a good way.

Eating clean and lifting has been my tonic. I started coaching as well. You can't take fat and out of shape onto a wrestling matt and stay unhurt.

Time to snack on my boiled eggs! Got to hit my protein macro!
