Who's in it/used to be in it? About 90% I have one.. gotta get an actual diagnosis but it seems pretty obvious to me..

It's presenting like a small groin hernia.. I assume I'm not the only one, and I assume at least one of you can tell me what pleasures I can expect for recovery and if "back to normal" is an option for post repair

*raises hand* I had a left inguinal hernia years ago. I had the recalled mesh put in for it. I went with the classical surgery versus lacroscopic surgery. The doctor said he could get better attachment of the mesh that way.


It was, to this day, the WORST recovery I have experienced. Between being clogged up from being out under, not being able to sit up or cough, and the 8 months of random pain as scar tissue released. It was miserable.

Today it's fine. The mesh makes my hip flexor tighter than my non hernia side.

I got a gnarly inguinal hernia about 10 years ago playing volleyball. I thought my nards were rotting

Same here, went laparoscopic with the biggest mesh they could find ... took about 8 month to not hurt with wired movements, and about a year and half to not feel it anymore 😒
If it is out a lot, it can get twisted (really bad) so keep an eye on it.

I have suffered from hernia on/off over the years. When we finally decide to do something it retracts and stops bothering me. The doctors have offered to do the mesh but I have had way too many friends and family who have had issues with the mesh with some of the having to go through multiple surgeries to fix/remove mesh and never fully recovered. So I am not doing the mesh and in that case they say it has to stay stuck out so they can know where specifically to close the gap. No surgery so far for me.

me too, and i will agree with everything said by other posts. totally sucks.
also, if you are getting ready for surgery, start taking laxatives before the surgery so you don't have to push too hard...

Had Drs appt Thursday, is official!!!

surgery consult on the 4th.. this thing sucks,

Asked around to some friends in the surgical industry, they said robotic laproscopic is my best option and I've got my consult with the guy who teaches that surgery. And I have a couple of nurse friends who can at least speak about the guys reputation

Both sides, both occurred when I was an infant.

No memory of the process, and 1971 was pre mesh. I'm fully recovered though

I had an umbilical hernia and didn’t know about it.

I was at a consultation with a surgeon about having my gall bladder removed about 5 years ago and as soon as he touched my belly button he said that they’d fix my hernia at the same time. They fixed it and pulled my gallbladder through the same incision site.

Had one as a kid, came back a couple years ago when I was getting back in shape. Sprint workout did me in. Right inguinal. Laparoscopic without mesh, IIRC - only surgery I remember recovering from, and it wasn't fun, but trying to get back to running months later was perhaps worse. Tight abs and flexor, and no cardio left. Weird feeling exactly where the three incisions were, every time I tried to move. First time I've had anything go through muscle tissue.

A month later my son got the same hernia - at 5 years old. Handled it like a champ, cried for about 4 seconds when he realized they'd cut him open then manned up quick when I told him he'd be asleep, and since it was cool that we'd "have matching scars". Open surgery for him, so the scars don't quite match... his recovery was practically instantaneous.

Not only have I had one, I went back for seconds. I didn't even know I had the first one, it was found during a job hire physical... the second I got while rigging loads to go onboard a ship, stretched just a little to far....felt it rip. Both recoveries were a piece of cake. I slept in a sitting position the first couple weeks so I put less strain on my abs & groin. Ate lots of soups and soft foods like apple sauce, etc so when I needed a BM I could let gravity do the work..... no turd pushing! The first was 17 years ago, the 2nd about 6 years ago... everything's been fine. Great recoveries both times

I have an umbilical hernia from a bad cough. Took many years and a log of coughs later for it to start popping out and realizing what it was. Scheduled for surgery next month.

inguinal, like 5+yrs ago- some of the worst pain ive ever had was from recovery, felt like i was blown in half and sewn back together. couldnt walk upright for a week. still feel it to this day. and i get pain in my hip area -nerve pain, when it gets cold it sux. it somewhat ruined me
walking helps u recover, keep trying to go further and further walks. and ur gunna have to take it easy for quiet some time

update on my end.. had the consult on the 4th, dr is super confident that it should be no problem, robotic laparoscopic is what this guy teaches, and thats what he will do. says this is his second most common surgery behind gallbladder, should only take him about 30 mins. he is predicting i should be back at in in 2 weeks, he has some guys that get back to it after a week, but those make him nervous.. "2 weeks and you should be fine"
