Blew my ankle to bits and took a few weeks off. Decided to jump back into it heading up to Humphreys Peak (highest peak in AZ). Was a grueling hike. The first part up to the saddle wasn't exceedingly difficult but after we hit about 11,000 ft the air got so thin I had a hard time catching my breath. We made it but our time didn't "wow" anyone.

I live in MI, and I agree, the American West, particularly southwest is spectacular.
I mostly go on day hikes that only take a few hours to complete. Here are a few photos from my FB feed:
A weird glacial erratic rock in SW MI.
Empire Bluffs Trail, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Target House, Bears Ears National Monument
Corona Arch, outside Moab, UT
Bear Mountain Trail, Sedona, AZ

From this weekend, camped with the wife and a friend on Flat Iron.
Hike up and down was good, first part of night was nice met up with another camper and hung out for a few hours. Overnight was rough, winds picked up 30MPH sustained and much larger gusts, got to the point we removed the rain flys because they were acting like sails and trying to flip our tents with us in them. Overall a fun trip but not the most restful sleep I've had.

This is all day hiking, and the natural features aren't quite as spectacular, but I've been getting out to Gettysburg National Military Park a lot lately.
That said, if you like enormous limestone outcroppings, eh, fugedaboudit
1. General Longstreet, back in Spangler's Woods on Seminary Ridge
2. General Armistead's farthest penetration during Pickett's Charge (that's The Angle back right)
3. Neat Confederate-made Parrot Rifle with a mysterious muzzle clamp I've never seen before... There's a pair on Seminary Ridge marked "Macon Arsenal"
4. Pennsylvania state monument on Cemetery Ridge
5. 20th Maine memorial below the summit of Little Round Top
