Some of my accounts - Wealthfront comes to mind - require an app-specific password for these third party access connections. Discover had problems when they were being acquired by Capital One. My mortgage company keeps changing, and many of them have had no third party access. So really, the problem can be on either end.
Alternative to Mint (budgeting) app?

Quoting flyweightnate's comment here. This is exactly why I do not rely on a 3rd party app for importing data. I cannot work with an incomplete data set, and manually importing transactions line by line is not feasible. So, I'm not entertaining apps until they do one of two things: allow me to programmatically update the dataset used either through Excel or SQL queries, or support importing random spreadsheets or CSV files with assisted methods that can then be run automatically (e.g. MATLAB's Import Data feature or Power Query's Import feature) that are then unique to files in that defined folder or account name. That way, we can drop the manually downloaded transaction data, put it in the local folder, and the rest is programmatically updated. I'm certainly not paying a subscription fee (e.g. Monarch) for this either. It has to run locally on an air gaped computer. Losing access to your financial data because the internet went out (possibly due to the financial issues in the first place) is a non-starter... mostly for the security concern, but also out of principle. -
Ok, an update on Monarch. It has this feature where it identifies recurring transactions (e.g. my Spotify account) and categorizes them as such.
Which is how the fight started.
Today it asked me if I wanted to save McMaster-Carr as a recurring bi-weekly payment. No, thank you, and if I wanted your opinion on my hobbies I would have asked.Feedback

I ended up with Quicken Simplifi
$35 for the year is reasonable and it’s been pretty good at identifying recurring payments. Some false identifications but not bad. Overall I’m hapoyyOriginally posted by Chuck E Ducky:
