Ticket prices (how scalpers ruin concerts)

Missed out on two shows because ticket prices are double to triple what I payed for to see them previously. Phish and Tool. Not paying $150 for one night of Phish at the United Center when I paid $118 for a three day pass at Alpine Valley Music Theater. And I'm not paying $200 for Tool at the Fiserv Forum when I paid $70 to see them at The Mark Of The Quad in Moline.

Anyone else going to see more local bands at clubs, bars, and smaller venues because of these scalpers? $10-20 or even free door fee, cheap drinks, good food, free parking, chill enviroment, more comfortable seats... etc etc. Just hate the feeling of FOMO. But not as much as letting a scalper butt slam me! .

It also ruins shows! I will always buy cheap nosebleed tickets because half the seats are empty and I just move up. But a half empty show is nowhere near as wild and chaotic energy filled. That and the people who are dropping hundreds a dollars to go see a band aren't exactly my kind of people. Or even the kind who should be at a concert. Go stay at your f****** country club and sip wine if you are gonna snub your nose at me for enjoying the show. I'm not obnoxious in my enjoyment but these yuppie f**** just sit and stare at their phone and babble about mundane shit like their job or kids the whole time. They sometimes won't even clap at the end of a song.

I like how some artists are making it so tickets can only be resold for resale, and are non transferable otherwise. That coupled with pre-sale codes is helping, but the scalpers still eventually win.

Best solution I have seen. Still most tickets are all bought from the big websites day one. Like I only have bought tickets from the box office or will call twice. Phish at Alpine Valley and Roger Waters at the United Center. Those Roger Waters tickets were $35! ROGER F****** WATERS playing In the round with a massive, hanging, wrap around, cross shaped screen! And of couse that big old balloon pig . For $35 flat! It may of been $45, I need to check my ticket later. Yeah I really was like "F*** paying scalpers after that show"! XD

When I was in my late teens/ early 20s, we would go to concerts all the time. We could drive down to Philly and see 3 bands at the Factory for 20 bucks. I saw Soundgarden at stabler, 5 feet from the stage for 18 bucks. Lallapalooza 93 was $36(tool was there lol)There was a scene, we would make friends meeting people that went to the same concerts as us. Ah the good ole days. I’d go see local bands more but I’m in 2 of them and there ain’t that many. That’s another scene I miss, man there used to be multiple local venues with live bands Thursday through Sunday.

If you don’t like high prices stop going to see millionaire geezers. Find who’s cool NOW and go see them NOW instead over the hill professionals.

It’s 1971. Deep Purple is playing downtown for $2 but you’re complaining about how much it costs to fly to Vegas to see fat Elvis.

I’m seeing Kool Keith at the Blind Pig this month. $20. Not $20 plus fees, just $20. All the best shows cost $20. You’ll understand some day.

Tool and Phish are nowhere near being s*** yet! Metallica, Pantera, and Mammoth are playing Soilders Field in August 2024. Going to be $55 plus fees and parking. Thats acceptable for three huge bands in a open air football stadium. I may take public transportation to save a few bucks. .

My family and friends tell me stories of Popular Creek Music Theater in Hoffman Estates. Lawn seats were like $15-20 bucks in the 80s. They saw Queen, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, Aerosmith, Metallica and Ozzy, Jerry Garcia Band, DIO, ZZTop, Judas Priest, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, John Cougar Mellencamp... the list goes on. In fact heres pretty much the entire list! XD

Want ticket prices to drop and scalpers move on to scalping something else, stop going and paying ridiculous prices. This is a supply and demand situation at its finest. I have not paid to go see a concert since the early 90s and the primary driver even back then was ticket prices rising and I really have not missed it that much.

I'd stop going if concerts/music wasn't something that I decided made life worth living. Not suicidal but life sucks and music, paintball, and nature are my escapes. .

Not saying stop the music, hell I listen to music all day while working, doing chores, driving,,,,etc. I just do not support the concert promoters. I am still buying music (over 60 GB of compressed files and over 7000 songs on my work machine) and that is buying hard physical media. Part of my NAS structure is dedicated to supporting and backing up my music library. So I support the music/musicians and music is part of my happy space just not wasting my money on a moment in time to help enrich promoters/ticket sellers/scalpers.

I would just walk around the outside of the Long Beach arena and find an off duty cop that I knew, moonlighting, working the exits and get let in and find an empty seat. Rolling Stones, Deep purple, Areosmith, Bad company, J Giles, Boston, Pink Floyd so many more. Then free tickets to all the taping of Don Karsners Midnight specials...Then 5 years ago when I had my Limo service.I could just show my limo parking pass (I was in a suit) and ask to go in and grab something to eat and poof I was in...Ever been to a Justin Timberlake concert? My favorite Don Kirschner's Rock Concert! Were you at this one with Black Sabbath? I feel like a show like his would kill today. Live music right on the tv. No pay per view! Who wouldn't watch that with all the hot garbage on now! Phish streams and puts every concert out for free in 4k afterwards. .

Everyone of them....The only part that sucked was only 2 sets from each band and we never knew who was going to be playing in advance.. KC and the sunshine band, Gladys Knight , Bands like that tossed in, But lil known band like Talking Heads , Sparks, Thin Lizzy, Nasrath..Devo...Looking back it was pretty cool...

Say what now? Are you of the impression that scalpers are bad people? Surely you must be mistaken. Aren't scalpers simply successful entrepreneurs, masterfully winning at the game of capitalism, to the envy and chagrin of the less skilled rabble?

Haven't we already had this discussion on MCB - having it explained to us rabble - establishing that it is so?
