    Austin F1 Race

Finally got to go through my shots from COTA last month! Still have a bunch of rolls of film to develop but I have a feeling very little of that is gonna be useable haha.

All shot on a 5dmk2, 70-200 f2.8 and a 2x extender. Used a circular pola as well but wish I'd left it off, everything came out REALLY soft.

Great job. Having been to that track trying to shoot those cars at that speed at that time of the year with that lighting…through a fence usually…I know it isn’t easy.

Nice! I've wanted to go to COTA since that first race, we have family nearby but nobody wanted to go with me haha. Finally got my sister into the sport over COVID.

We really lucked out with out seats. T19, super close to the track and high enough we were JUST above the fencing.

Had to stake out our seats right at 7am for race day though.

Yea there were 3 of them all in the JPS-style livery. The real standout was this dude in the Bennington car though, he won both of the historic endurance races and 1 of the historic formula races, Only reason he lost the second formula race was because he got hit by another car.

              Nice shots!

I knew I was forgetting something this year. I've been wanting to get over there since the track opened. I should be able to find the time now.

                I was using a Nikor DX 55-300mm.

That particular picture of mine was taken at the corner with the observation tower (turns 16-18) which allows you to track full speed cars at a constant distance for the entire corner. This allows you to lock focus, rotate as the car goes by, and get as many exposures as the camera can achieve before the car disappears around the corner while simultaneously blurring the fence to the point of invisibility.

I think the description of how I took the shot is more important than what I took it with. The same advice applies to any camera.

Yea that's pretty similar to what I was at, just used a slower shutter and the pola to get more blur

Got the scans back from the film I shot too finally:

Gonna clean this one up a bit and blow it up for the wall I think

Shot with the same lenses on an Elan 7N and a variety of film stocks.
