    Air Show Photos

I'm fortunate to live in a city that gets air shows basically every year. I'm not about to call myself a photographer, but it was cool to get some decent shots today.

    ^That one's a keeper.

Did the Hercules fly over this year? I didn't see it.

No Herc this year. Always liked it because it was the only one that should up on Flightradar24.

Did they drop the SkyHawks out of the SAR bird to start the show?

I saw some chutes on Saturday, but nothing on the Sunday show.

This is great! It also reminded me that I wanted to get tickets for the cold lake air show near me, thanks!

Nice stuff! They have an airshow up here once every other year, and I keep wanting to go, but sometimes it's tough to break away. I did manage to catch one a few years ago- got to walk through a C5 Galaxy, poke around in a B-58, and they demoed a fast-deploy of a small assault group- less than five minutes to drop a whole platoon, including a 105mm.

Wow! What’s the story behind getting to go up in the air to capture these?

        Heh. I wish!

No, I took those from ground level. The F22 was banking hard, doing a loop past the crowd. According to the announcer, at just short of supersonic. The P-51s were doing a much lower speed and wider curve bank past the crowd as well. That brighter-white spot next to the blue, on the lower right edge, is a mountain.

It's also worth noting I had a high-end camera (Canon 1D, I eventually gave to an MCB'er a few years ago) and an image-stabilized 300mm zoom.

        That F22 shot is unreal!

Very cool. I really like the ones with the tree in the foreground. I’ve only been to one air show when I was about 6 but it was such a cool experience. Need to keep a lookout for some around me.

Air shows are great! Lucky to live in San Diego where we get the Miramar air show in September with the Blue Angels etc. Not a plane but a cool shot from San Diego bay with the USS George Washington.

So a local small town airport has their yearly Wings and Wheels car and air show. Tons of cool cars (including on of mine for the last 3 or 4 years), a bunch of small privately owned airplanes that fly in for a pancake breakfast, a fun little air show, and the ability to get close up to many of these cool planes.

            How close?

            Probably too close.

It was kind of odd seeing a darn seaplane in Western Wisconsin, but the owners, who were super nice, said they loved to fly from lake to lake and hit all the good Supper Clubs.

What's that silver jet? I'm not up on early Soviet stuff (assumed from the Cyrillic writing) and my Google-fu is failing me.

Didn't get a chance to talk to the crew running that one, but looking up the tail number shows it to be a Aero L-29 Delfin, a Czech jet trainer.
