    First Grizzly of 2025

    Moved to the Rockies in January. I've been looking forward to seeing a brown bear in the wild, and after hiking all morning we happened upon these 4 just off the road.

    Not amazing photos, but decent.

          I was looking forward to it, but it's been a particularly cool experience moving out here.

          The wild life alone is just... Abundant. We get deer in the neighbourhood pretty frequently, and other neighbourhoods close by have active colonies living within them. We get giant jackrabbits around the house all the time.

          We've been day tripping into the parks away from the touristy spots every 2-3 weeks and we see bighorn sheep quite regularly, all types of deer.

          If you ever make a trip out, let me know.

            and squirrels.... lots and lots of squirrels... but no bears... well my wife but she def is not a grizzly

                Just wrapping up an Alberta road trip. Vancouver to Calgary, up to Edmonton and am back home to Vancouver.

                Haven’t seen any bear yet but hoping to be on the road early tomorrow and see some critters. So far lots of deer, a beaver, lots of bighorn sheep, two mountain goats way up a cliff, an Elk, a beaver and lots of dams and lodges, pelicans, and a large hare in the Weat Edmonton Mall parking lot. Have to post some pictures when I get a chance.

                      RAZRBAKK I’m just outside of Vancouver and yes we have black bears locally. Was a sighting just up the street from my house while I was away. Vancouver Island does have bears as well.

                            Carry spray or large revolver when hiking?

                            I see tons of wildlife, but we only have black bears here. Not sure I could go out west without spray or a firearm.

                                Can'ada, so we can't carry handguns here, but I have a can of spray on me at all times. I'm still not sure on the rules for long guns, but I'm considering a 12 gauge as an emergency measure.

                                The statistics are in favour of spray over a gun, so I feel pretty comfortable with that.

                                        We were a good 100 yards away, and lots of other people around. I certainly dont want to come across one on the trail.
