It's extremely cool, but people gonna die. But people die every year in the IOMTT so nbd. I'd watch for sure, but it seems like it'll be a bunch of years before it actually... takes off.
I see we just decided to skip hover cars and go straight to flying motorcycles.
Seriously though I think this is awesome. The programming available for GPS flight and stability can be very very good, which means when you black out from sudden negative to positive g-force from deciding to do a quadruple barrel roll while inverted, means you won't crash.
Assuming power doesn't fail, and all the engines run correctly, this is probably pretty safe, assuming you don't just fly into something.
Lilium Jet and Joby Aviation both promise less than 60 dB at 500ft I believe. That's way below what a helicopter does. They're specifically designed to be quiet, and the lilium in particular has a design optimised for it.
But those aren't "personal drones" as such, they're Uber style rapid commuter services designed for 30 mile (minimum) hops. Personal drones will probably never exist. Downwash is just too big an issue for anything like real flying cars to exist even if they were 100% safe.
5th element style flying cars will only exist if someone figures out proper antigrav that doesn't accidentally slow time in the car, explode with gigatons of energy, use the entire power output of the planet per car, accidentally fly to another star system, generate a GRB that wipes out all civilisation and sends the Sun nova, or just turn people into pink mist with extreme tidal forces. Good luck with that RnD cycle. I'll be chilling on mars.
Ok so maybe freezing time in the car would be a feature, not a bug.
