I just picked up Dying Light and have been playing that in-between bouts of Stardew Valley and some classic gaming.

Dying light was a fun game. The jump scares aren't my bag, but the game play was still really fun.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land. I rarely buy new games & i even more rarely buy new games at full price. Between all the retro games i pick up, Eshop sales & newish games that might not sell that great & get discounted pretty soon after release I’m never short on something to play. I really like most of the Kirby series & this one looked amazing. So far it hasn’t disappointed though some of the new abilities are kind of meh.

i also finally picked up Jedi Fallen Order. Only played the first 30 minutes or so but man it starts out strong. I love having the light saber from the start.

Cdn_Cuda My boys (7 & 10yo) & I have played Super Mario Odyssey and they have a blast with it. I started my older boy on Super Mario World when he was maybe 6. But he likes working & getting better at stuff, so he usually keeps trying 'til he gets it. They've been playing Mario & Pokemon for a few years now with little issue. But I don't mind handing them a challenge. How will they learn unless you let them try? If anything, it'd make for a potentially good experiment.

Kirby games are great. As homerj noted, they are on the easy side & great for getting kids into platform games & games in general. If you're looking for a "Mario-style" game that's even easier to work through then Kirby is the hot ticket IMO.

Awesome. I’ll watch for that. Don’t mind giving the kids a challenge. I personally hate Mario as I can barely play it. I wanted a Switch to intro the kids to gaming as controllers are smaller than PS4. They love Lego City a undercover and play it without issue. Mario, aside from the first couple levels is just constant death and frustration.

Another game to consider is Yoshi’s Crafted World. Same deal as Kirby except it’s 2D with more of a focus on platforming.

Here is a question. What should I be playing?

Other than TF2 and some Civ V, I have not played anything on the PC for years. However, I just bought a new one with some gaming in mind.

I really liked the WH40K Dawn of War series - what is comparable to that that is turn-based ?

Good memories of Diablo II and Baldur's Gate. Anything new like those?

For the PS, I enjoyed The Last of Us and Uncharted

I don't mind FPS but I only have a keyboard and mouse. What should I be playing?

I see a lot of talk about Eldon Ring but it is just hack/slash ?

XCOM - the latest version, and even more so XCOM 2 with expansions is a turn based scifi game that may very well tickle your fancy.

As for a game similar to Diablo II, there is a free to play game called Path of Exile, that is very much like Diablo II. It has a very intricate skill system as well. Quite easy to try out, since the game is 100% free, and most of the stuff you can buy is either cosmetic or some ease of life upgrades.

            My absolute favorite games over the last years, and games that I recommend everybody to try out have been;

            The Witcher 3
            Subnautica
            Kindome Come: Deliverance
            Red Dead Redemption 2

If you really, really want a complete Witcher experience, then read the entire book series, and then play all three games in order. CD Project Red has captured the atmosphere and general feeling of the books to an absolutely astounding degree. The storyline as weel, continues flawlessly which also adds to the enjoyment in playing all three games, with the utter masterpiece of The Withcher 3 to top it all off. I felt genuinely sad when I finally was finished with it all.

Oh, and if you have read the books, avoid the TV-series like the plague. Actually, you should all avoid the TV-series like the plague. It absolutely butchers the books into an incomprehensible mess, totally missing out what made the story so great in the very first place. Pick up the books - they are a great read.

I played the games and really disliked the show just couldn’t get into it. Witcher Series is definitely a good one. It’s so detailed and runs so smooth!

My thoughts exactly. TW3 was one of the best gaming experiences ever, and do the books great justice. And yes: avoid the show.

BTW, I highly recommend Total War Warhammer II (if youre on PC) and then the third installment afterwards which just came out recently. After playing action RPG’s for years, this has been my first RTS, and for fantasy sword & magic lovers: it’s an under-the-radar must-play. I’m absolutely obsessed. Obviously the RPG elements are tame and its mostly large scale battles but it’s a completely fleshed out game based on the fantasy Warhammer table-top game, which is basically like DnD except that instead of small parties or guilds you have commanders with armies and full scale warfare. You still have heros with skill trees and special abilities and a story but a lot of love went into the game. Each faction has different play styles and abilities, different weapons and creatures. There are castle sieges and all kinds of different terrains which require different tactics. There’s just too much to list you just gotta try it out trust me

An example of a castle siege in TW: Warhammer II:

Steam has both II and III for $60 each but you can get the second one on g2a for around $15. I have 600+ hours on the second and still not ready to move on to the third installment which just released.

I'm not sure on the first one. The Diablo 2 remake was recently released. I have thoughts on what I've seen of it, but I haven't actually played it.

Elden Ring IS NOT a hack & slash. If you play it that way you'll get your ass handed to you in a big way and many times over, lol. Elden Ring is basically Dark Souls 4. It's a continuation of the Souls formula (though much refined), taking place in a larger, more open world than previous entries. Combat is the core of the game, with a large, deep narrative that you have to work to figure out. Lots of nuance in the narrative & mechanics. YouTubers & streamers make it look easy, but it's not. Like most other Souls games, it's a challenging experience that rewards observation, learning & persistence. I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. In some ways it's one of the more difficult Souls games, but it's much more accessible for Souls newbies than past entries have been. I personally think it's a tad easier than Dark Souls 3, but I'm not super deep into it yet. I'm sure it'll pick up in difficulty.

If you pick up Elden Ring it's probably best if you avoid the base XBox One version. Nothing completely game-breaking, but it runs better on virtually every other platform. But I mean, if that's all you've got then go for it.

                Yes VLDL is great

I am super excited for Tiny Tina's Wonderland, I love Borderlands.

However... I impulsively bought X4 Foundations during the recent sale. I played Terran Conflict ages ago, and just like the big space sim games, and the X series I think nails the genre.
It is a massive empire builder and Space "simulation" game, so it's not for everyone. I did find it much much easier to jump back into compared to X3. Still kinda cluncky but no other game let's you amass 20 Destroyers and 100 fighters and take objective universe while being able to stand on the bridge and spout out orders. I'm having a blast.

Playing Total War: Warhammer II. Absolutely obsessed with this game. It’s my first RTS, after being an OG RPG fan since the late 90’s, since the original Baldur’s Gate (1 & 2), TES, and Diablo games — I highly recommend it to any sword & magic fantasy RPG fans. It’s a must-play.

It’s not based on Warhammer 40k, but rather the fantasy franchise which follows the fantasy table-top game, which is highly similar to DnD in regards to its lore, except that instead of small parties/guilds, you have large armies, led by heroes (with different weapons and abilities even within the same race or faction) and large-scale warfare. Also, the armies are also very different depending on how you build/stack and your tactics. There’s too much to list, if you’re a sword & magic fantasy fan do yourself a favor and try this game

Bought The House Of The Dead Remake the other day. I’m a light gun fan in general & HOTD 2 is my all time favorite. I’ve been stoked about the remake since i first heard that it was in development but i was also worried that the limitations of the Switch controller might hold it back from being as fun as the previous games. While the Joycon is no substitute for a Stunner or even a Wiimote, it doesn’t ruin the experience either. It’s FAR from perfect & i find myself resetting the crosshairs pretty much every time i reload but there’s still a lot of fun to be had. I fiddled with some of the settings last night & had a better time than i did when i first played it. It’s worth $25.00. I even pre-ordered the physical version but, like i said, I’m a light gun game fan.

Started playing Subnautica the other day. Not sure I’m going to like it. I don’t generally enjoy crafting in games. It was fine in Dead Island so maybe if i give this a chance I’ll enjoy it more than i think.

It's a great game, although it is easy to side track and just start doing random things. Crafting is a big part but if you focus on the main story everything keeps moving forward.
