micro center not building it. my high school buddy and friday night gamming buddy are going to build to as group. since give day to spend time together. i would have parts order from them so they can pick up from place instead of shipping it to them. if order from place they pick up no shipping parts when only shipping to me. and if something goes wrong they next to place to get part fixed

How much does microcenter charge to build it? It really isnt hard to put together, BTW. We can walk you through it.
Also not sure how that would work cause Microcenter has higher pricing on some of the items or may not have the same items available 🤔
Edit:
Apparently, Microcenter doesn’t even have the Ryzen 5950X online, its in-store-only but I found it on ebay for $515 shipped, new so thats 35 you can save right there from the 549 Amazon price

They have the motherboard for $299 and offer a $20 discount if you pair it with a compatible CPU, only problem being that a lot of their CPUs are sold in-store only. They are demented this way.

Corsair 850W power supplies are a little more expensive on MC compared with Amazon by $15-25

How fun, I dug around and the Asus B550 ProArt turns out is the best option to include the Thunderbolt port IO. This really is the best setup without going Threadripper.Leave a comment:

ok cool, in that case you’re looking good. I think that if you can forgo the new SSD purchases for now, and leave it for later then you should be able to get this beastly rig for around $2500, taxes included. And then add SSD’s and whatever else laterLeave a comment:

i have 1tb ssd drive i was going to put into laptop but might keep and use for desktop instead.Another place where you can save money to stay within budget without sacrificing performance is
in the size of the ssd’s. You can start with a 1TB SSD and a big spinner all for $200. Instead of blowing past your budget right now with a 2+ TB SSD which you can add later and not sacrifice performance just initial capacity. Something to ponder

Exactly so the Thunderbolt ports on the motherboard are more than adequate for your card reader. You can always add an external desktop dock/bay later on if you wannai use thunderbolt port for my blackjack card reader so need one for that. and fact other card reader i have c port too. so want both at start since have 500gb backup hard for traveling and will have black jack or other card reader too. so when i get back from traveling faster move files from card reader to 500gb hard drive where i store files before l move to computer to edit them. since after day of softball i have about 80gb of photo soccer is less since one game, volleyball with new lens will be around 40gb of photo'sLeave a comment:

Ok and Thundebolt docks are $300, as mentioned earlier, so right now, that would be a no-go. You can run Thunderbolt off the back. And then later on add the convenience of putting the dock on a desk. So by cutting $100 from the mobo, we’re now talking about adding a $300 dock for luxury/convenience. Does this make sense to you. Lets just get a competent rig past the $2500 finish line (or as close as possible.) As you mentioned, he still needs the camera and probably a professional / accurate monitor later too
But yes, Thunderbolt cards are $100-150
and Thunderbolt docks are about twice that.Leave a comment:

That's the funny thing for some of the IO ports... you end up buying docks or other expansion items because who the hell wants the Thunderbolt slot on the BACK of the PC? The Asus I listed has Thunderbolt support for a case input or bay dock.
The problem is that 150-200 mobos dont have Thunderbolt. You would then need to add a dedicated Thunderbolt card thats $100 at least. And that mobo is beefy in other regards. But I agree I have the Gigabyte Elite x570 and I paid like $170. I don’t really spend $200+ on mobos. I rather use the money to upgrade more often. But then again, I am not a content creator or video editor. I build gaming rigs.
When it comes to content creation you want feature support and stability. Never overclock, and have as much storage and memory as possible.
Also... network backup. But that's a whole other discussion.Leave a comment:

why want board that can do that. but only can afford 64 for now get rest later. since still want to get z9 that is 5,600 before tax and need to get two new memory cards that close to 600 to 700 and back up battery that close to 300 so 1k for memory cards and battery. i have things need before i can fully load desktop up. to get 126 will take in till next year same to get iron wolf hard drive i need since want area to hold up to 4 of them be around 8tb for each one to start then go bigger later downline i need camera first before going over board on desktop since 7k for camera and memory card with extra batteryWell when looking at B550 there really isn't a reason to spend $300 on a motherboard.
There are perfectly good boards in the $150-$200 range, if looking to fit a budget. Most people overspend on motherboards for no reason.
If anything spend less on a motherboard and buy more RAM, 32/64 GB isn't enough for 8k editing, you want as much as possible. B550 boards sometimes have a hard time with 128GB of RAM using all 4 slots, so 64 x2 sticks is expensive. Edit... I don't think B550 supports more than 32 GB per stick
The CPU is fine, and the GPU is fine, but no Monitor was listed, which is equally if not more important for visual accuracy, and where you should spend money.
Also if trying to fit into a budget and would be doing primarily CPU rendering you could opt for a 3060 or Quadro card instead.
The rest of the build is good, mostly preference or need specific.
The ASUS B550-Plus TUF Gaming WiFi board is under $200 and would be just fine. Spend the other cash on Case expansion like the Thunderbolt dock.
Even a $100 board with the same chipset would work perfectly since you should not be overlocking this computer

Also I wouldn’t go lower than a 3070. 1) a lot of rendering is done through CUDA and the faster card can widen his toolset even if he uses CPU rendering, predominantly. And 2) he also wants it for gaming, as per his OPLeave a comment:
