    Steam Deck?

Has anyone heard of these or, better yet, tried one out?

I’ve been looking for a way to get into playing PC games with a Buddy but I don’t have a gaming-capable PC. I thought this might be a way to bridge that gap. Any thoughts or insights?

I've seen a fair number of people using them for running roms/hacks as well, if that appeals to you.

That appeals to me. Now I'm even more interested in one.

I've got one, love it. Capable of playing normal games, but is an emulation machine. Everything from retro NES all the way up to (and beyond) the Playstation era.

JaggedX5593 has one. From what I've seen, they are really cool!

I got the mid range one. It's pretty decent at what it does. Just note that not all games are compatible with it, as it's running Linux and some common anti-cheat software doesn't like it. Valve is working on getting the authentication and such to make it work.

It's really cool because you can actually switch it from "Steam mode" into "Linux mode", and it has a full, proper desktop and everything which allows you to install whatever software you like.

I've been considering one as a Couch gaming/HTPC that I can take on the road.

It's the best thing out if you are into portable gaming and like Steam. It works best if you happen to have a PC you can stream from using Steam, otherwise I'd really look at what games play well on it and what games you want to play. With some knowledge you can almost play anything on it but there is a Linux/technical wall you need to navigate, which isn't always hard but Linux can be cumbersome to get something to run that isn't native.

It's getting there. Maybe in a year or two it will be an absolute solid platform. This is mostly a game programming progression for games on Linux. The hardware is great itself.

That said, PC parts might be seeing a crash in price soon with how wacky the current market is looking. The $500-$800 gaming PC might be making a comeback.

I'm honestly hoping to see EAC support so I can finally ditch Windows.

My understanding is the EAC is compatible already, but the developers just needs to turn it on.

zinger565 I have heard that as well, just waiting for the green light. Hoping the steamdeck assists in getting that done.
