They still can be, but now I can send and receive full rez videos via text with my apple friends and their ”better" phones 😂
At least now you don't have to buy a special phone just to get access to a special messaging service that's only compatible with other people with the same special phone

Wait so apple is finally is allowing people to send not blurry pictures and video?
From a supposedly superior camera?

I am happy enough using Signal. RCS is cool, but I'd rather have the encrypted chat than any of the features RCS/iMessage offer.Originally posted by Terry A. DavisGod said 640x480 16 color was a covenant like circumcision.

Same here dude. I've been a Signal user since before there was a Signal. Back when it was two different apps, TextSecure and RedPhone. I also been a big fan of Moxie's work for a long time.

Signal has kinda gone to crap though.
Removing the ability to set colours for the bubbles per contact was a huge PITA for me, and then the fact it only works on one device at a time (besides, weirdly, a PC) so I can't have it on both my tablet and phone, and then removing SMS functionality meaning I can no longer convince anyone to use it who doesn't already...
Now I only use it because there are no good alternatives I could convince family and friends to adopt, not because it's any good.

@vijiji I hear you on that. They've been talking about adding additional devices for years and still haven't.
The thing is, I don't use Signal for the features. I simply use it for the encryption. I have a few schizoid old-internet friends that I've been able to convince, but most of my family and friends are not interested. So I don't text them.
People get so blinded by the features in these apps that they forget what the app is even for. Frankly, I don't have patience for them. Don't get me wrong, I text some people because it's the only way to communicate with them. But anyone that I'm going to have a personal conversation with, it's Signal or it's in person.
The next options are arguably more schizo and difficult to get on-board with lol. I've wanted to move to Briar for chats with my girlfriend, but even she's not into that.
It's very difficult to get people on-board with a lot of this stuff, but I don't see that as a reason to compromise.

Not sure how much proof is behind this but I actually just heard by word of mouth that this isn't so much apple deciding to be nice to their customers but rather they were staring down the barrel of a potential lawsuit from the government basically saying that by actions such as intentionally degrading communications between phone brands that they were trying to create a monopoly.
I'll look into it when I have time

The software side of things might be a little messier to regulate, but I can appreciate that there's trying at least. It's absolutely insane that the iphone software refuses to play nice with other manufactures simply because they don't want to.
