I don't know what game you were watching, cuz it definitely has that Blade Runner/Altered Carbon/Ghost in the Shell cyberpunk vibe. I think the main problem is that a lot of the game takes place during the day. The city is crowded, dirty and grimy, there's rain, neon, body mods. It's true that the cars aren't particularly crazy (all very 80s), but there are some flying ones.
Anyway, I spent the last 9 or so hours playing it, and barely feel like I've scratched the surface. A few thoughts so far:
-enemy hit boxes are tiny. Maybe I'm too used to competitive PvP shooters like Halo or Destiny but it takes a lot more work to actually hit someone
-driving is horrendous. Not expecting Forza, but dang it's real bad.
-character creation is not as deep as I would have liked. I can tweak eyes, ears, jaw, but not forehead?
-hacking is clunky, so I'm kind of avoiding it
-walking down the street, I saw 3 identical NPCs within a 2 minute span. I know it's hard to generate so many NPCs, but it did break the immersion.
-the map is HUGE, but not a lot of it is interactive. It's closer to Mass Effect than Elder Scrolls.
-combat music is repetitive and lacks energy. DOOM 2016, it is not.
I have encountered a number of bugs, but so far just little animation bugs. Inactive NPCs T-posing every so often (indoor spaces only so far) held items getting messed up (hard to explain). Nothing game breaking, but I'm on PC not console. There does appear to be some inconsistencies with the Ui, that's kind of hard to explain. Some menus or settings options don't seem to exist on PC like they do on console.
Criticisms aside, I'm definitely enjoying it. Combat can be really fun, but you'll spend much more time in noncombat scenarios. Some might see that as a negative, I do not. The story is pretty crazy so far. Lots of drama and spectacle. There are very personal moments as well. Graphics are solid though not next level. By and large, I think it does a great job in delivering the classic cyberpunk vibe, both thematically and visually. It definitely needs to be patched, not that you needed me to tell you that. But it's a fun game. I haven't spent this much time on a video game in a loooong time. Homework this weekend is going to be a struggle haha.Comment

Looking forward to playing Cyberpunk. TBH I'm going to hold off until I rebuild my computer with a new GPU and CPU and a good high refresh 1440 monitor to get the full experience. The graphics are supposed to be the selling point it seems like with everything else taking back seat.Comment

Watch out for "Life During Wartime", it's a main quest and part of it appears to be broken. Myself and another friend have game breaking glitches that we can not progress and they apparently just hotfixed it earlier today. Looks like my game is coming to a grinding halt.
@mag, don't have a controller to just leave plugged in and pick up? I mean I don't think taking your hands off the M+KB to pick up a controller is all that much work, but to each is own.Comment

A good friend of mine picked this up after lucking up and getting a 3070. His own words are that it is absolutely stunning visually. Very immersive experience in that. Says that even with the GPU he has (on a 2600X) that some settings had to be tweaked in order to get good results. His words were "needs to be optimized", and in particular to what they say is minimum spec. His own opinion is that a lot of the negative spin coming out about the game has more to do with people attempting to play it on older hardware.
In my own game realm, I have been looking forward to it. My concern is that is WILL be another Witcher 3, or Red Dead, or Skyrim type thing. In my buddies own words he compares it most directly to GTA. I simply don't have the time to delve deep into some expansive game that ends up being hours of trudging along looking at scenery. Witcher is a prime example of this. Awesome game that is absolutely lovely to look at (especially with good hardware) and most of the time you are riding a horse somewhere.Comment

and thats where im conflicted, it runs OKAY for me, its choppier in a crowd than i would like, but i suspect that won't last forever with a few patches
and part of me would totally be down to refund the $60 and buy it later when it comes on sale, but im not sure its worth the $20 id save in the long run..Comment

I cooooould do that, but that involves pulling out my controller from the drawer right underneath my laptop, and plugging it in..... just so much wooooooork....

Much like the Lt I'm playing on Xbox One and the game is good so far, but all kinds of glitchy and buggy. There are a lot of simple things that are missing like the ability to modify your appearance after the character creator and a limited number of merchants that you can interact with. There are 15 million vendors around, but you can't actually talk with most of them... I'd be good with a generic dialog and the ability to buy & sell.
A lot of the UI is really small as well. I don't sit 2-feet from my TV and can't read half of the text on item cards- drives me nuts. To be fair though- most games are like that...Comment

UI text is adjustable in the menu, or it is on PC. I would assume it is on console as well.
I discovered the in-game Ritual FM radio station yesterday. It's a collection the nastiest death metal and black metal. And now I've found it on youtube so I can listen to it outside of the game haha.Comment

Cool. I'll check it out. You know which game had really good music which I still use today for cycling and working out... Skyrim. It's not rock, obviously, but The Swedish Orchestra made some really cool music for that game. I made the best workout mix using the official Skyim soundtrack and surprisingly I never get tired of listening to it even though I listen to it at least once a week for working out. I also have other playlists, obviously, and I work out at least 3 times a week, but I always rotate the Skyrim mix at least once a week.UI text is adjustable in the menu, or it is on PC. I made the mix in this order:
1. Standing Stones
2. Sovngarde
3. Tundra
4. Sky Above, Voice Within
5. Aurora
6. Imperial Throne
7. Dragonborn
8. Wind Guide You
9. Ancient Stones
10. Kyne's Peace
11. The Bannered Mare
12. A Winter's Tale
13. The Gathering StormComment

You're missing the best one!! Though it's probably not a good workout song. Frostfall has always been my favorite; the cello line grabbed me long before I ever played the game.
I too love that soundtrack. I have a large collection of songs from it, Oblivion, and Morrowind in a playlist. Basically all the noncombat, nondungeion music. It's great for chill background music. It definitely gets played at least once a month, usually more frequently but it has been on the backburner lately.Comment

You know, I never played the older TES games -- I should really check out the soundtracks. Thanks. I will also listen to Frostfall, it could've just fallen through the cracks when I compiled the list. But back in the day I played Diablo and Baldur's Gate. For some reason TES wasnt on my radar back then. You're missing the best one!! Though it's probably not a good workout song. But it's kind of incredible how big these AAA game projects are. I mean, to have The Swedish Orchestra do dozens of numbers for one title is quite impressive.Comment
