Friendly reminder: 5 more days until The Expanse season 5 premiere

5 more days until The Expanse season 5 premiere. 'Nuff said.

Anyone watching this show? I think I'm waiting till at least 4-5 episodes are out so that I can binge watch it.

The show like the books kind of just fizzled away in interest for me. I have all of the books but stopped reading most of the way through Babylon's Ashes just lost interest and the same thing happened with the show. I got caught up through season 3 then just have never gone back to it. Maybe one day I'll try them again.

The only reason I liked the show was the whole detective sub plot that was such a sick season. The rest is literally just - season after season - world ending geo-cosmic-political intrigue turned to 10,000% which is fine as a backdrop but not the main story c'mon. Also I want to see that big guy kill people not his back story of being a bullied orphan c'moooonnn.. Man these guys don't know their audience... althought I am absoultely judging a book by its cover and I know these take a few episodes to get into sometimes (might give it another go).

I find that happens with very long stories. Put it down, come back later. You just get burned out. This happened to me with "The 100". Came back to it almost 2 years later and have interest again.

I actually made it to the end of The100, which was trying at times. Took a couple breaks while watching and then Covid let me return to finish.

I started watching it with zero expectations and it's proven to be a very enjoyable ride. Looking forward to the next season.

Love it myself, mostly because it has a couple points of difference to the usual military space operas that all blur together in my mind. Speaking of books that is - this is the only earth humans based one that's been made into a series since Space Above and Beyond (loved that show). I suppose BSG counts too in some ways, though it's not near future earth.

I think the (relative) realism is hugely helpful for suspension of disbelief.

Did you start watching cause of the thread? If yes -- then my job here is complete

If I can get just one more person to watch this great show... this thread has been a success.

Binged all 4 seasons that were out when I found out about it a while back. Didn't realize the new season was coming out so soon! Can't wait!

I binged "Sons of Anarchy" a few years back. Loved it... but only got 1/2 way through the last season. Once you know where everything is heading, I'm just too exhausted to sit through it all.
Same with "Breaking bad". never finished the last season.

I really liked the Expanse, especially the drama and politics. Season 4 was a change.... and weirdly almost the same story as season 2 of "lost in space". I now its a coincidence, but jeepers.... they could have used the same f/x shots and nobody would have noticed

Started watching way before that, but keep on proselytizing!

This show isn't my jam and neither are the books, they are both in a style of writing scifi and fiction in general that I don't really enjoy that much.

HOWEVER I do like space, and I do like the high level of effort that is going into this show, and fully support it. If I could I would turn my TV on to watch the show for me just so the ratings go up.

I liked the first season, because it reminded me 100% of books like cold as ice / the ganymede club by charles sheffield that I like a whole lot, but once it spends so much time doing pretty shallow politics stuff I am just not that into it.

But I still support it big time.
