    3d printers

Looking to buy my wife a 3d printer for Christmas. Wondering on over all opinions on the flash forge or creality brands.

    flashforge
    https://www.amazon.com/FLASHFORGE-De...XRm&psc=1&th=1

    Creality
    https://www.amazon.com/Creality-K1C-...Y2hfYXRm&psc=1

I’m sure she will be printing craft type things. I will probably use it to print custom parts for various interests. is the creality k1c worth the extra 100 dollars? Is there other printers in the same general price bracket I should look at?

Get a bambulab. The P1S is about $10 cheaper than the K1C and offers the same features, and bambulab has been kicking creality's ass for the past couple years. The creality's I've worked with have always had issues and needed tuning, while all of the bambulabs my friends have just work every time and print beautifully. Seriously, just get a bambulab

Thanks for the advice, looks like the P1s is back ordered through their site and not available through Amazon. Any other vendor sites to check?

I don't know any other sites off the top of my head, but the bambulab A1 is a good option if you're just going to be doing simple printing and don't really care about doing fancy materials or having an enclosure. Prusa is another good company to check out, but they tend to be a bit more pricey

No creality unless she likes to tinker.

        Bamboo anything for the win.

I use anycubic and love them but they are basic bitches compared to any bamboo.

I have the Flashforge 5m (non pro) and its an excellent printer. I think they are 219.00 on sale now on Flashforge's website. The Pro is the same mechanics with an enclosure.

How long have you had the flashforge? Amazon has some horror story reviews on the pro.

I have had it for a year. I have found it to be a good printer. The build plate isnt large, but can fit most things. For 219.00, its a nice printer for PLA, PETG, and TPU.

The P1S is awesome with the AMS that’s what I have. They just had a big sale on them.

Edit: Dang looks like they are back ordered till after Christmas unfortunately.

Im really happy with BambuLabs I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one. My boss got the biggest one they offer and has been using it alot in the Fabrication shop. I’m love my P1S honestly it might be worth the wait.

The website says shipping 12/30 unfortunately, though I may hold off to see if they come back in stock. Otherwise I think I’ll try the flashforge.

I ordered a p1s with AMS 2 pro combo at beginning of the month. It said it was back ordered til Nov. 9. No biggie it was a week. I ordered on a Friday or Saturday. By the following Tuesday I had tracking numbers for the printer and AMS. They both arrived BEFORE the backorder ship by date. All of the accessories, filament, etc that I ordered showed up throughout the next few weeks. I couldn’t use the AMS at all because the 4 pin cable showed up with the big accessory order late last week. Moral of the story… it shows back ordered… but they very well could be for accessory bits, not the printer or AMS. They do some weird stuff when shipping things out. But it will arrive.

I was won over by Bambu Lab because of the A1 Mini. I was going to get the A1 but the price difference to use the standard AMS with the A1 was less than $100. The big benefits of the A1 though are the faster filament switches and I could use the same nozzles and other parts as the Mini. I really like the P1S. However I am surprised with how loud it is for being enclosed and the huge number of mods to those printers. Yes they have been out longer, but out of the box I noticed a lot of improvements that could be made. The number of mods I’ve done to the A1 Mini can be counted on 1 hand after 2 years. I think I printed 10 or more different mods for the P1S in 2 weeks just because of various quirks found during setup. I’m not done yet either.

Flashforge is making news in some circles for being highly opposed to additive manufacturing of... regulated items.

Might be worth considering if you want to make any paintball-related stuff; I don't know their methods, but if they're observing prints and it affects warranty status, or worse, might brick the device, if they don't like the look of what they see, that could be significant. A casual observer might have trouble distinguishing between paintball and things they dislike.

Has anyone looking into this in more detail than my passing observation? I thought to pick one up for fixtures, etc. until I saw that, which gave me pause. Would love to have a conclusive take on when they get involved, and how involved they get.

Good to know I wonder if you can disable the camera I know mine has a camera you can watch the prints. But I imagine so can they.

Unfortunately I’ve heard Bambu is similarly minded, assholes. I’ll keep that in mind as I find the subject intriguing.

+1 for the P1S - just solid workhorse of a printer. I have an H2D as well and that thing is amazing as you get more advanced and into multicolor. no issues printing anything paintball related. there are pretty straightforward work-arounds for maintaining privacy in with the bambu printers if thats important to you.

there are also some very straightforward DIY chamber heaters that you can add to a P1S as she gets into more advanced prints.

As others have said definitely go with Bambu. I had an Ender 3 for a while, but it never got to the point of being reliable or dimensionally accurate. Plus it was incredibly slow. I do have a friend that has the newer version and he seems to like it though.

I now have the A1 mini and that thing is awesome, especially for the price point. It just works. I have only had a couple pring fails and that's probably due to it being in a fairly cold basement. I can only imagine their higher end printers are even better

If you're looking to print and not tinker, it's really hard to beat Bambu. I've been running the X1 Carbon with multiple AMS units for the past year and have used it heavily. I couldn't be more impressed, the thing just works. I've even lost power in the middle of prints and it was able to pick up where it left off when the power came back on. I don't hesitate to start a long print before bed and let it print all night, it's a solid printer.
