Wife and I each have an SCX-10 with a number of amazon parts. The steering servos go out as soon as you add weight or decent tires. Best part is they are fun indoor or outdoors.
I think I've had the Capra since 2020. It's been a good car with minimal part replacements. The FCX has also been very fun, got it a year ago. I need to wire the headlights back up and would like to add a kit for the roof lights. I'm not a die hard rc or crawler guy but these do get pretty regular play time between me and my kid and I appreciate that they really don't cost anything to run and maintain.
The Capra can pretty much go anywhere so I like to take it on hikes and try to climb whatever obstacles I can find. Lots of places around me to do that (CT has a lot of glacial till). It's sort of a jack of all trades in that it's technically a scale rock buggy so it's capable, but not necessarily comp capable stock. It's geared a little high for some folks' taste but I tend to enjoy the wheel speed for casual driving. The FCX24 is fun for a change of pace since it's both tiny and more of a traditional scale truck. I ran both on an outdoor course last winter and was very surprised how well the FCX24 did. I'd like to position some rocks for a backyard course eventually.
To answer your question about size, 1/10 is definitely best for "organic" obstacles and would be my choice for an only crawler. 1/24 is a nice compliment to it though.
scx10, 2 x scx24's, venture 18cc, bully, and a bully 2. Garland Green in a pink suit driving the scx10 wearing a head as a hat, a bit too much flex on the bully.
Those are 1:24 scale. The yellow Powerwagon is an FMS. And the other two are SCX 24s.
I printed the rocks, but they are not my design. I believe this guy made the originals. https://makerworld.com/en/models/205...ofileId-225548
Other folks have made their own compatible plates as well. There's a ton of options available to download.
My daughter and I have a couple that we like to run around the house on rainy/snowy days and around the yard. 1 UTB Capra 18, and two SCX 30. I ended up having to replace a bunch of the electronics on one SCX, so Axial just sent us a replacement. Two for the price of, by the time I got the first one sorted out, two!
