    MTG dual packs?

    Hey guys!

My wife has very recently opened up to gaming and I'd really to teach her how to play Magic. I know they used to make two-deck starter packs for beginners, anyone know if they still do? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I haven't played myself in a long time so it'll be a re-learn for me and a fresh start for wifey. Also if anyone has any recommendations for video games for newbies I'm open to them (she loves Animal Crossing).

There is actually a new product called Jumpstart. You take two packs and shuffle them together to make semi-random decks. Each pack has a theme and you can repack them to increase replay-ability. Availability is not the best right now due to Covid-19 but more is hitting the market. It is a fun product with medium complexity and lets a player try out a bunch of different things.

Personally I think it is a good jumping off point for someone that has a teacher to help learn the game.

Hearthstone is like a simpler version of Magic and could be an easy way to learn that type of card game.

I've heard of Hearthstone. I was hoping to get something to play off-screen.

I’m a fan of bulk buys off eBay. It’s better deck building.
way cheaper and you can make a deck as easy or as hard to play as you need to

You're absolutely right, but the time commitment to sorting and making decks is the main reason I was hoping to get a ready-to-play pack. I still have a few big boxes of cards, but I don't have the wherewithal to go through them right now.

Just build full colorless deck. Simplest possible way to okay haha. There where some pre sorted and prebuilt starters last I looked. I haven’t played in years. All I know is ulmags crusher is still my favorite card

For me the most fun part of MTG is actually building the deck then trying it out to see what works and what does not work. I did this from day one with essentially no experience and I had more fun making horrible decks that did not work and learned slowly what worked (for me) in both playing style and deck mechanics. All that being said I am a big enough geek to get into the rules and I really do not mind losing in the pursuit for making a better deck. If I was to recommend a pre-made deck as a starting point for a new player that is not too advanced to be unplayable but have enough legs to last a while I would say a couple of the Planes Walkers decks from Theros. Maybe not the best beginner deck but not too advanced but has enough variety to serve as a base deck while getting the hang of it.

I'll look in my boxes of cards I might still have an undisturbed deck or two from Theros that I can bring out to the field Saturday so you can take home and try out.

The planeswalker decks that Grendel suggested are a good way to start, and Jumpstart that Hellion suggested is a whole lot of fun with some really powerful cards if you're lucky enough. Wizards does have a couple of those two-deck kits out right now though, and I think the Arena Starter Kit might be the best since that is what you're looking for. It comes with two decent decks, codes to get them on Arena (of you play that), and it's like $6 at Target. Can't really go wrong at that price.

I recently tried to bring a few "new guys" to MTG. Bought mono color planeswalker decks at Walmart while travelling, played for an evening. All 3 decks seemed pretty darn evenly matched.

I followed this guide and built these five decks one of each color. I found them pretty good for teaching. Price has gone up a bit since I built them.

Ya, I was too late contacting FF I guess; I didn't permission from the field to attend either day.

I'll pop them in the mail to you, I think I still have your address.

Fox Fire on Saturday or head your way on Sunday to play with the crew, I'm easy. Fox Fire never was my field just played there a couple times. When I said the 5th before I guess I meant the 6th (Sunday) math is hard some times
