Had a really good FNM last weekend. Played 3 commander games, won the first one with my dragon deck. My goal to make it just ok has spectacularly failed; it is easily my best deck. Anyway, my LGS is an official WotC store, so they hand out promos every week. I've gotten some good stuff in weeks past (like a foil alt art Goblin King), this week I got a Cori-Steel Blade. Also grabbed 2 Bloomburrow packs (I LOVE Bloomburrow, it's my favorite set) and pulled something like $25 worth out of one of them. About half of that was a Special Guest alt art Sword to Plowshares. From what I'm seeing online, Special Guest cards appear in one in every 64 play boosters, so it's a really rare pull. Also got a Manifold Mouse, another new favorite.

I downloaded MTG Arena a week or so ago, and today finally got past the tutorial crap. Nothing is worse than super long tutorials for people who already know what they're doing (KH2, looking at you). Anyway, I started playing some real games but didn't have the cards I really needed to compete. I then found out that they give you something like 30 free packs when you start, they're just hidden in your inbox. So I opened all of those, got tons of wildcards, and built out a red/white mouse deck. Manifold Mouse + Emberheart Challenger + any random pump spell is just nutty. I've been playing basically nonstop all evening.

Bloomburrow is also my favorite set. Loved the Redwall books when I was younger and has the same vibes. Keep meaning to buy some more of it.

Ha, be careful with Arena. It’s great at eating up time. Mouse deck sounds fun though.

Yeah I’ve been playing a lot of arena lately. It’s pretty bad haha. I was trying to rank up to mythic, and got all the way to diamond tier 1, and hit a losing streak. It’s really really rough. I don’t think I have it in me to grind thru, especially since it’s only for one more reward pack than diamond. The matchmaking is just utterly broken, and the meta is ass. I fully admit that I netdecked, and I’m running mono red aggro. It’s often insanely powerful, but I’ll get put on the draw almost every game, and get hit with multiple duress and similar effects. I tend to get a bit ragey after a few losses like that. I’m having much more fun in unranked play with a izzet tempo brew.

Also finally have enough in the collection (and enough wildcards) to put together a decent brawl deck. I’m running a Kotis the Fangkeeper equipment deck. When it pops off, it is downright toxic. I often feel a little bad playing it but with the crap I put up with in that format I tend not to care.

In terms of paper magic, I had a string of really good pulls over the last few weeks. Got the bloomburrow stuff mentioned before, the week following I got a full art elspeth, and then the week after I got a foil promo elspeth. I need to slow down on my buying though, so I haven’t bought packs for the last couple weeks. Naturally I’ve been making small tweaks to decks. My dragon deck has become my most powerful deck, which is both good and bad. I was hoping to keep it more mid powered, but the precon I built it from is pretty ridiculous already.

Obviously Final Fantasy spoilers are happening now. I don’t really like UB as a concept, and IMO this set is setting a really bad standard moving forward (not in terms of format, but also that too). This set is like the definition of power creep. It’s really dumb. And I hate that it has already become the best selling set of all time, before it even comes out. The only thing I’m buying from the set is the prerelease, and that’s just because prereleases are fun. And I have half a mind to not even do that. But that’s just me channeling Riot lol.

I know that most people are probably excited this weekend for the FF release, but I'm pumped bc I finally got a Library of Alexandria! My LGS had one show up, and went through bulk rares and was able to offload a ton of them for it. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid and only pulled cards from one total deck to do it! Got me a big ol smile right now!

That's really exciting!! Espcially having wanted it for so long, and the price being what it is, that's really awesome you were able to get it. Congrats!!

The FF prerelease was fun, but honestly the set is not well designed. None of the cards felt congruent or synergistic at all. There are some cool cards, and some worked great on their own, but nothing that really paired well together. That said, as much as I dislike UB this set "feels" more like magic than any of the others.

The LGS I went to does Two Headed Giant for the Friday night prerelease, and I teamed up with the same guy from Tarkir (we won last time, so we figured why not). I did GW, he did UB. We went 2-1, which we were happy with. They give out 2 packs for participation and 1 for each win, so we ended up with 10 packs total (including the 6 from the prerelease kit). Hard to argue with.

Unlike with Tarkir, I actually got some decent pulls this time around. Got a foil Traveling Chocobo (regular, not the fancy one) and Cloud. Got enough value to pay for the prerelease, so I'm pretty happy about that. I'm going to try to get the Secret Lair tomorrow as well.

I don't really love the UB stuff, and with the cost of it, I just can't justify this set and spending on it. I LOVED Tarkir (I have always been a dragon guy) and really liked the strong identities that they laid out with the different factions. I may end up getting singles, but passing on the collector boosters I normally go for. Plus working on knocking out a full set of duals right now.

Oh yeah for sure, I only got the prerelease pack. I don't think anyone from my group got collector boosters like they normally do.

I did get some of the Final Fantasy Secret Lair stuff this morning though. Got the Grimoire (the one with cyclonic rift) and the Game Over (toxic deluge) packs in foil. I was really lucky and got a early spot in line; I finished my order less than 30 minutes after it went live. Lots of people on reddit and whatnot said they were in line for 5 hours and everything was sold out by the time it was their turn.

Is anyone following the Edge of Eternities spoilers so far? I've been super excited about this set for months, terrified that it would be another hat set. But holy crap, it is looking so good so far!! The story is one of the most original and interesting scifi settings I've come across (which in fairness is not all that many). Not many cards have been spoiled so far, and admittedly only a couple look particularly good, but there are a few that I think will be really good. And there's a 45 card bonus sheet that will apparently all be reprints of old lands!! I'm reeeeally hoping they reprint Ancient Tomb and Urza's Saga, both of which I need and are really iconic. The art so far is really cool too; the lands in particular are incredible!!

In other news, my play group decided to do a $20 commander deck build challenge. It should be really fun. I'm thinking of doing Kotis the Fangkeeper, a super budget version of the Arena deck I've been playing for a while.

Hm. Thought I had posted in this thread before but I guess not.

I'm looking forward to EOE but at the same time my wallet is so burned out lol. My collection is currently focusing on high end stuff like cedh staples and reserve list stuff so it's not like my wallet is getting much of a break anyways.

The EOE land reprints are quite exciting. Also seeing shocks go into standard is going to be wild

Well, now that all of EOE has been previewed, I think it's safe to say this set is really freakin good. Best set of the year IMO, and easily my favorite set ever. The art is fantastic, the story is really cool, and there are a large number of cards I think will be Commander staples. I'm particularly in love with the bonus sheet. Both because of the aforementioned Ancient Tomb (definitely buying the single if I don't pull it), and because (again) the art!! Even the really blah lands look really cool. I'm trying to prepare myself to be disappointed with my pulls haha.

Last night at FNM, I traded the few pokemon cards I had held onto to one of my friends for a huge stack of stuff. Hits include a Roaming Throne, galaxy foil Unfinity Island, and an oil slick raised foil Vraska. Also got a bunch of smaller staples and little pieces for various decks I may or may not ever make. It took something like an hour and a half to finalize it, partially because of the sheer value I needed to reach (~$175) and because, frankly, my friend's binders are a bit disorganized. But yeah, it was fun.

And then, I had one of the best games of commander I'll probably ever have. Playing Brudiclad against Yuriko, Vivi, and a third I don't remember. Not including lands, I played 3 cards plus my commander, and by turn 4 I killed one player, turn 5 killed the other 2. Worth noting I had high roll and therefore went first. T1 sol ring, T2 Simulacrum Synthesizer, T3 Goblin Rally, T4 Brudiclad. Alpha striked Yuriko. T5 I channeled Sokenzen and played a Krenko's Command, and killed the other 2. It was pretty spectacular, especially considering how high powered my group is. Yuriko was right about to Thorracle/Demonic, and Vivi had just hit the board. So yeah, my 6 months of brewing Brudiclad has really paid off!!

Anyway, I know nobody cares about that but at a certain point i'm just posting for me lol. But yeah, EOE is going to be great, I'm really looking forward to the prerelease next week!! My usual 2HG partner is out of town so I'm playing with the guy I traded pokemon with. Maybe I'm wrong (time will tell), but I feel like this set is going to be a much better set for limited that FF was. I'm also looking forward to people's short attention spans moving to something other than FF decks lol

Continuing in the vein of no one cares but i'm going to post about it anyway, I preordered an Edge of Eternities collector booster box off of TCGPlayer back in April for $250. I found out much later that the seller had a history of cancelling preorders and selling the product in-store for a higher price. I was prepared for that to happen to me, had a backup lined up if necessary, but today it came in. And HOT DAMN I got a good box!! Got all my money back in value with 3 cards alone, and then a bunch of great stuff on top of that.

            Here are the highlights:

It really makes up for having a mediocre prerelease. Me and my partner did 1-2, and I had just ok pulls. But more than anything I just overhyped it in my head.

But yeah. EOE is an awesome set. I'm super happy right now.

ID:	727095 I just got back into it in like 10 years and found modern is dead and EDH is the popular format. So like anyone with a compulsive disorder I bought the 4 40k precons and started building a Sliver's EDH and a mono red using The Red Terror as a commander. And for kicks I'm rebuilding a modern Slivers deck with some new cards that came out since I stopped playing.

              Hey all,

Modern MTG is so hard to keep up with, the number of sets released each year is insane. I have played some arena on/off to scratch the itch, some collector packs here and there. I first started playing around 4th Ed / ice age. Stopped collecting regularly around mercadian masques. Still have all my old cards, recently went through them and sleeved up the valuable ones. My biggest regret is trading off my Mox Diamond that I opened. During those days I also got into the star wars TCG (which tanked and lost all its value), pokemon (traded tons of valuable 1st edition cards into LGS for more mtg/star wars), baseball, and a little bit of marvel. Recently got a few boxes from the first few sets of star wars unlimited which was/is pretty fun to play but I haven't kept up with that either. Print quality was not that great, more of a play game.

Still watch TY vids of people opening vintage and modern but not something I can really keep up with collecting myself. With the amount of abilities, counters, and combos in modern I don't know how people play outside of arena.

Most of the time playing paper magic is shuffling and explaining what cards do. There's something like 30,000 unique magic cards now, there's absolutely no way even a fraction of them all. The expectation to ask or be asked to explain cards is just part of the game now.

Like most people in this thread I also recently(ish), LOTR set, got back into the game after not playing since the original mirodin block. I have started to enjoy it a lot but the power creep is real. Thankfully I have a few coworkers who play but it’s hard to get people to get the time set aside. I have really enjoyed the preleases I have went to.

I am unapologetically excited the avatar set coming out but was unable to get a preorder for a collector booster box and refuse to pay these stupid scalping prices.

Haven't posted here in a while.

Avatar prerelease is next week. I never watched the show, and generally don’t like UB sets so I haven’t followed it much. I completely ignored spiderman. I had some family stuff going on so I didn’t do the prerelease for that one. Also ignored it on arena. Haven’t even seen anyone play it there, which is kinda wild. I did, however, sign up for the avatar prerelease. Mostly just cuz prerelease events are a fun change of pace, and there’s always a chance I’ll get something cool.

i sold my dragon deck (upgraded Temur roar precon) to a guy in my play group. It was a strong deck, but the play style wasn’t really for me. Using the money from that to build a fairly low powered bloomburrow frog deck with Clement as the commander. I love bloomburrow as a set, and wanted a precon-ish level deck with that theme, but none of the precons speak to me. A lot of my decks end up being stronger than I think they are, so it’ll be nice to have something lower powered.

I’m really trying to keep to a strict 3 deck limit. I would go with 2, or even one, if I could. But three gives me a bit more flexibility and options without getting out of control. Brudiclad is still my favorite, and my strongest. I’m currently rebuilding it to make it more artifact/space themed, using a bunch of EOE cards. I built a Kotis the Fangkeeper deck for a $20 deck building challenge my group was doing. No one else ended up actually building anything, so I’ve upgraded it fair bit. After playing a few games with it this last Friday, I’m not sure how much my group will let me play it haha. It’s a bit toxic. And then frogs will be the third. I have a bunch of deck ideas put together on moxfield that is like to build in paper at some point, so I’ll probably continue to cycle thru different things.

I haven't peaked the spoilers for avatar but Prof from Tolarian seems positive about it after the shitty Spideman set. I really fucking hate the releases for 2026 other than Lorwyn and Strixhaven. A standard set of Startrek is gonna be ass.
