    Cyberflesh

Never been a big board game person.
The wife has a group of her friends that get together once a week for D&D/ related rpgs.
I dont play videogames anymore and i barely know any card games! But i have a decent sized collection of "underground" artbooks and comics and some of those are concept art for such things, so i guess i adjacently still quaify as one of those NERDS 🤓😁
A video popped up in my youtube feed about "game manuals for videogames that dont exist". I watched it, basically an essay on an Italian artist's retro, pixelated dark fantasy works that are , as the title stated, concept art for a Dark Souls style nintendo game that doesnt exist. The fictional game/world is called "Vermis" and the artist goes by Plastiboo. If youre into that sort of thing, i highly recommend picking up his stuff. The books are great quality and his art is awesome.

The Vermis Books are available through Hollow Press, a publishing company distributing works from many different artists from The US, Japan and Europe. Most of their content leans toward the darker, stranger side of medieval fantasy, post apocalyptic, sci fi, and horror genres.
I check in on the site now and then and pick up comics and art occasionally.
Recently, theyve added actual, playable games to their store. I picked up a few of them, and my wife and i have been checking them out.

One of these games is CYBERFLESH.
Its a sci fi dungeon crawler set in an alternate dimension where you are attempting to escape The Stomach Prison, all while battling the biomechanical denizens of the jail, building your character and being pursued by the titular menace, The Cyberflesh. The artstyle is very H.R.Giger/Cronenberg, players pick up weapons and loot that look like they graft into your skin with lizard and bug parts and events during the game cause you to mutate alien limbs, spines, sacs and armor as power ups, sometimes "power downs".
Everything you need is included in the box, which also contains a sweet bestiary of the enemies, bosses and NPCs.
Theres a few videos on youtube about how to play and the included manual does a great job of laying out the details.
we like to immerse ourselves in the world with creepy lighting and game appropriate soundtracks. The edition i bought comes with a CD with two official Cyberflesh tracks, but our playlists usually has stuff from Quake, Descent, and other stuff like that
Ive been doing some doodles of our characters after our games end too, stretching the fun a little further.
an Average, 2 person game has been taking us ~2 hrs, less if we both die early, which happens a lot.
Theres enough pieces included for 4 players, but rules to include more if youd like. I dont think the game would work well with more than 5 players, 2 is a pretty good sweet spot. But you can even play solo!
Theres not a ton of stategy, most of the game is decided with dice rolls. some of the youtube reviewers knock the game for "playing itself" and not having enough options to recoup after a bad roll. I can see how it might be boring if you play a lot of RPG videogames or D&D style stuff with a lot more substance, but im diggin Cyberflesh. Something to do in these winter months at least! and the art/style/details is very rad imho. Most importantly, its FRANKIE APPROVED

You call those scribbles? Damn. I wish my actual scribbles looked half that good, heck, 10% as good as those! That looks amazing.

Sounds like a fun game! Not many games are fun with only 2 people so that is a real big bonus when it is just a standard night in.
