    Pokemon Popularity, 30th celebration

Pokemon was pretty big back when I was in Elementary/Middle school, maybe mid to late '90s. My younger brother was into it for a bit, and collected cards. Nothing too crazy, and never really took great care of them. But that was what I remember being the height of the Pokemon trend.

Here lately, in the last maybe 12 months, my son and some of his friends have been very intensely interested in Pokemon cards, and are highly anticipating the 30th celebrations stuff that has been coming out. I had no idea that Pokemon had got so big again, but it seems like there has been a resurgence. So mush so, for us at least, that it looks like we will be camping out at Best Buy Friday morning for the UPC box. He has raked leaves and done extra stuff tirelessly to earn the cash, and very psyched to try to get it.

Anyone else riding the Pokemon card train lately?

I collected the cards back around 98. Never learned how to play with them, but I liked collecting them and they seemed to be worth some cash then. I sold some a few years ago for decent money when they were peaking again. Kept the more valuable ones, though. I haven't really kept up with them market but it's fun to pull out the binder and look at what 8th grade me invested in.

I’m also guilty of collecting and not playing when I was younger. My son and I started to play the game as its intended and there is a reason I didn’t play all those years ago 🤣

I've never been a collector, but I was in elementary school when Pokemon first released and I bought into the hype just as much as my cohorts. We used to go to Toys'R'Us on Sundays cause they would have Pokemon card game events and you could win gym badges and stuff. Super fun for a ~10 year old. I still have a bunch of the cards, but they're well worn and not worth anything AFAIK. My cousin's kid has recently gotten into the card games so I'll probably gift my pile of cards to him.

They are currently at an insane peak. I recently sold my OG collection for some nice coin. I wanna say I took home just short of 3k all in. I personally believe the bubble is fixing to pop though. No way normal folk can afford the 30k some cards are selling for. Definitely not a time to buy anything but booster packs from retailers.

Hype. Welcome to the flipping horde. Think Curated is crazy on prices…

People are looking for a get quick rich scheme. Pokemon is that. It now involves children.

The game itself is irrelevant. No one plays with those cards that are crazy prices.

Paintball doesn’t have the opportunity to buy cheap and flip for crazy money.
