While I made my own setup like that (and will probably be rebuilding same in the near future, as the current one was... shall we say, 'done expediently' ) those are well-regarded in the DIY-fab circles.

The hot setup is to be able to fasten it semi-permanently to a corner of a workbench or table or what have you, and set it up with a foot switch. I seem to recall SWAG sells those, too.

Then it's as simple as walking up, stepping on the pedal, cutting your part, stepping off and walking back to your project. Fast, easy and handy.

Do you think a cheaper version using 3/4 plywood and 2x4 could work?

Yes the foot switch pedal is really a good option, even thinking at buying more than one pedal for other equipment

I really like how compact this band saw setup is, but wondering if its worth the price of the swag attachment ($200 USD with powder coat and pedal). I saw a lot of home made version but never seem as good...

I have one works great for my purposes. Very well made and easy to mount and move around. Some people use it unmounted but I like having it secured. Just took my setup down since I am packing up my shop in anticipation of a move. No way I could have made a nice as one with my current tools for less so well worth the money. Mine is the V2.0 because I have a DeWalt bandsaw but essentially the same thing.

Okay that's pretty cool, didn't know that existed until now. I've been looking at options for the small amount of metal cutting I do, this has been on my mind:

-Don't see why not. As long as it's rigid enough to not walk around on you, the only problem I could see is the work surface. If you'll be cutting metal with it, a wooden "tabletop" is going to get pretty badly scarred up in short order.

But even with a wood frame, a thin top of 16 ga steel or something like that would be plenty.

Yes just bough a used milwaukee band saw with adjustable speed yesterday, now I am trying to figure out if I buy a Swag table or I try to DIY one
But I will at least buy a pedal since it is a really good idea
