    Detroit Steel Wheels

I like the look of these things. Anyone seen them on a modern car? They're certainly tailored to go on their vintage counterparts, but I wonder what a more recent model would look like with them on.

I'm sure they would look great.

Lots of trucks come with silver painted steel wheels with nice looking slots. My honda element has factory silver painted steel wheels with center caps. that look good.

But I don't have any photos of the specific wheels google fu showed me you were probably talking about.

cant see the image on the work computer but after a quick google search, they look like a classic design and for trucks.
back in the day, my camaro had a set of cragar solid rims. they looked ok but it wasnt for me... they also didnt let the brakes breath. brake fade is scary.
depends on the car i suppose.

Yeah, there's a reason solid wheels aren't a thing these days and that's one of them. A few more: it traps dirt and debris that can recirculate through your brakes leading to premature failure, user must remove the wheel to clean a build up of mud/gunk or just to get a quick glance at rotors/pads. I actually use a cheap boroscope to check pads through the wheel, and that would be prohibitively difficult with dished wheels. Regarding wear, rally cars have wheels that have narrow openings; that alone reduces brake life by ~75%. In order to restore that usable life, they developed mechanisms to wipe the inside diameter of wheels and eject the debris out the side to keep debris from making into the caliper.
