If they come out with a king cab with a regular bed I might consider trading in my 2000 Ranger. It's almost perfect for a city truck. Almost.

Most common problems with that 2.0 ecoboost:- Cracked Exhaust Manifold
- Turbo/Boost Control Solenoid Failure
- Low-Pressure Fuel Pump Failure (LPFP)
- Carbon Build-up
I would just swap out the turbo / manifold for headers and retune with a higher flow fuel pump if and when I had issues. Most common around 60K+ I'm not sure if Ford is keeping the manifold and turbo all one piece on the newest generation. But if they do like they have in the past and the manifold cracks you got to replace the turbo to. Making it a no brainer to go bigger and more efficient. But overall its a decent motor Ford/ Mazda has put them in a lot of vehicles.

They are unibody with independent Suspension on the AWD version. It should handle like a small car or newer SUV.

This truck was made for slobs like myself... I do just enough small sized projects that could benefit from an open bed I'd consider the hybrid. I've owned a big ole dodge ram in the past... never again. Too big, too annoying to get around/park. If my household ever needs 2 reliable cars again this is one I want to check out to replace my beater honda.

Where I work we mostly use bigger pick up trucks as work trucks and most guys drive big full size pick ups as their personal vehicles. I have always liked the smaller sized pick ups myself. They seem to be getting more popular in the states, as their prices are starting to match full size prices or at least get damn close.
I for one wouldn't mind more small to mid size pick ups available in the states.

I will agree I dont think it will sell well to most truck people in the US. I mean, I dont hate it. But a good chunk of Americans with trucks use them for the utility. (Hauling or towing) For me, my main use of my truck is pulling my camper around to camp and hike with my wife. My camper is considered "ultra light" at 2900lbs dry. The hydrid version couldnt pull my camper, and the eco boost model is almost at max capacity as that sits. Im personally not a fan of being within 1000 pounds of your towing cap at best. (Factor in food and such, and Im sure you exceed the eco boost cap pretty quickly.) So I wouldnt be a buyer for a truck utility. I also think that cvt will burn up quickly hauling loads.
Id consider replacing the wifes sedan with something like this, but shed rather a bronco if she gets something on the new ford line up.
This may appeal to the cross over, suv, adventurer crowd who want to be able to hang a canoe out of the bed and drive up i to the mountians vs strap it to the top, but I doubt itll gain huge traction in the States. I may be wrong, but Im glad to see companies trying new concepts, and bringing them to market.

I can easily see Ford selling a shitload of them, and I think that GM is going to find the Colorado/Canyon are going to be in a LOT of trouble. (The Ranger too, but still)

I tell you what I would consider the XLT AWD with the Eco boost motor and the tow package for Mid $30’s. That hybrid motor won’t do what I want from a truck. But I can see it being a big selling point especially with the mileage you can get from them and most people don’t use a truck as a truck.
I would like to see a jacked up Mini Raptor addition AWD with that eco boost turnt up to 11. Those things can make some serious power with simple mods. Especially with an AWD system to put it down. That could make a fun truck!
Im keeping an eye on these I been looking for a deal on a used truck for my wife but maybe I will go new.

Here in NZ/Oz we've been driving monocoque/car based utes (you call them trucks, which is super confusing considering they're nothing like actual trucks) for decades and loving it. Arguably they're an Australian invention. They do well because the fuel consumption and cost is a bunch lower than a bigger ladder frame ute since fuel is literally twice the price here vs the US, and because most folks like having a tray but don't need the cargo capacity of an F150. It also helps that bigger utes like the F150 aren't sold here anyway, we get the Ranger and nothing bigger. Toyota sell the hilux here, but the Tacoma is a no go.
Which is why it seems strange to me that neither Hyundai nor Ford will bring their new small trucks down under. They cite the cost of converting to RHD, but I'm sure they wont sell that well in the US. So here we're mostly driving Chinese and Korean utes alongside Hilux and Ranger and VW Amarok at the high end.
That said, looking at the Mav, I can see why they wouldn't bring it here. The styling is *very* american to the point I don't think it would sell that well here on looks alone. It just needs some wood panelling on the side to complete the effect
I wonder if there's some psychology going on. The US's full size pickup obsession maybe means everyone has them, and most folks wont deliberately choose something smaller and less capable than what all their friends have. Here, there are no big pickups to choose from, so that's not an issue. A midsize pickup is considered a large vehicle here.
Or, will the Maverick uncover a hipster/soccer mom market that weren't previously buying trucks?
