Been watching a lot of reviews for this and at a different place and time (single and in the Navy still) I might have been tempted. I think this is something that is filling a gap in the market and I hope it succeeds. My main motivation is to get all of the people who buy pickups but don't really use them out of them. I want my truck back not these mamby pamby decked out like Caddy "pick-ups" they make now. Where are the 8ft beds that are made to carry loads and be abused. I was wanting to buy something newer (I own a 1993 F350 CC LWB 4x4 w/7.3L IDI) not because I really want a newer truck but my old beast is finally nickel and diming me just due to her age. I really don't need that big of a truck anymore but when I look at what it costs for a 5 year old Tacoma I was shocked. They cost $10-20K more then what I paid for my truck new and aren't a fourth of the truck.

You mofos that buy trucks but baby them go buy a F$#King car or cross over or something and quit driving up the prices and adding BS to something that should be made for pure utility.

    [climbs down of soap box]

I don't think they'll lose a ton from any one vehicle but the Maverick is going to take a lot of sales from people who would otherwise settle for a lot of the other lower-end models at the range-the EcoSport, Bronco Sport and Ranger are all going to feed into Maverick sales but honestly I think the bulk of buyers are from people who would otherwise have bought any of the midsize pickups.

I say the Ranger and Colorado/Canyon twins are going to get the worst of it just because most Tacoma buyers aren't even considering domestic options, the new Frontier is going to be new and shiny enough that it's not going to be affected much (And, again, definitely a bit of a seperation between Japanese and American pickup buyers) and the Gladiator is very much it's own thing with an entirely different appeal.

Still, I think that the appeal of the Maverick is broad enough that it's going to bring in a very wide array of buyers, and honestly I suspect it's going to have one of the youngest average ownership ages on the market today-it's cheap enough that anyone with a decent job will have no problem buying one, it looks like it can do basically decently, works in the city, gets great gas mileage and probably seats 4 comfortably.

In the paragraph you quoted I was referring more to the fleet market. Pretty much everyone here has Tacos or Chevs for fleet trucks nowadays & I think this will have a serious edge on those based on price alone. You do have valid points otherwise, though.

Exactly.... far too many of us old gearheads still alive that around when the Maverick was first introduced. And @ Grendel.... yes, Ford did offer the Maverick/comet in a v8 (302) called the "Grabber"

Huh, my dad had a Capri back in the 70s. I wonder when they'll reintroduce that as an SUV/pickup.
