    Lawn Mower repair

Hey, I picked up an old push lawn mower. It runs, a bit smoky, but it seems to have a hole in the fuel tank. It is an external facing metal tank, that drips on the deck.
I just need it to mow about 40 sq/ft so barely anything.

Can I smear some JB weld in there? I mean.. it is a lawn mower.

yes you can. I have "fixed" with JB weld, also nut/bolt/washers, also filling to below the hole.
When it caught fire, that was a perfect excuse to not cut the grass I didn't want to cut in the first place.

They have fiberglass repair kits specifically for fuel tanks for maybe $15 at your local auto parts store

HAha.. well I'm not opposed to "on fire" so long as it doesn't explode and still cuts. I can put the flames out later.

Great I'll give the weld a try.

I suppose I was asking "Will this explode" or "Will it might explode"

I mean it will probably hold for a while, but not forever so keep an eye on it

Jb weld it and only fill it half full. Sand the area first and clean it with isopropyl alcohol. Just keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

            Wait ? 40 sq ft. Get a weed wacker that’s a 6.33’ X 6.33’ area.

For that little space, an electric string trimmer would be perfect. Hell, you could probably do it with a pair of scissors in less than an hour.

            surely it was a typo.

            surely...

If not, legit need to drop a few pavers there and sell the mower to free up ~10sq-ft of much needed real estate.

LOL well it's probably more like 400... I do have a string trimmer, but a mower actually does a better job, and is a bit faster. I was using the trimmer until now.

Sadly I don't see how it could catch fire, considering it is actively leaking now and I've been mowing with it. Less leaky gas seems like it would catch fire less. But one can hope.

Many years ago I owned a '73 Impala. I accidentally backed over my kids bicycle and put a nice half moon hole in the tank. It took care of draining itself at that point. I used JB Weld to fix the hole and it's been working since.

Funny story... someone had previously put a patch on the tank. Still leaked.

I went full send and just slathered High Temp gasket goo over everything. Found a bottle with a broken cap and it was drying out anyways.
Smear repair is working fine, no more leaks.

Sadly also no external explosions. But I tried really hard.
