New scam to watch out for

Not sure how new this is, but it's a new one to me. Apparently thieves are scouting out vehicles to steal, making up fake paperwork and advertising it for sale before they steal it. Then once they've got a buyer ready to come make a deal cash in hand they steal it so they can get it sold before it gets reported stolen.

I'm naturally pretty suspicious, but the way this guy describes the deal it would have seemed legit to me. Be careful out there!

Yeah, it’s like when Verizon says you get free Hulu, but then Hulu says error and you try to call Verizon but you really just called Indonesia.

There were a few cars sold on carvana that were stolen.

Multiple vins.

Just can't trust anyone anymore.

Carvana wasn’t vetting there cars. Imagine buying Maserati. Only to find out someone switched the vin numbers on and that it’s a few years older then what you thought after binging it to a dealer for an oil change. Yeah that actually happened. Car was stolen vin swaped and sold to Carvana as a newer model car was then “legally” sold to Another customer. I bet that cost some cash and not the first one to get scammed I’m sure. I bet there are tons of cars out there that were sold like this and the majority of people don’t even know it

Thanks for the heads up! They're going to great lengths here and exposing themselves to higher risk of being caught, but I guess they get twice as much as they would at the chop shop.
