So this may sound like a far fetched wish or a something that is common every day practice but, is there an different operating system that you can install on your car. With a PC or arm based machine i can install Linux, on a android based phone i can install Graphene OS or many others. On a vehicle you seem to be stuck with whatever OS the manufacturer installs. I can see the security risks with allowing something else to control a vehicle as well as annoyance factors ie you install a program that does something different or can not control a special feature but I also see some benefits with the new vehicles charging monthly for items that use to be included or items that are already in the vehicle if you could unlock that with a different OS that would be nice. In my case not having to hit the accept button every time i start the vehicle would be great. I understand that I could change out the radio and get rid of that but if i could install a different OS that works similar that would be great.

There are different controllers for when building a project car... but for the annoyances on Jeeps, none that I can think of other than stuff that can be controlled by a Tazer. Which I don't think they make for the Bus... -
Honestly, i think DOT requires that stupid acknowledgement. Even with an aftermarket radio, I have a similar message.Comment

I don't think automobiles have an OS, at least not in the PC sense.Comment

There are two types Stand Alone engine management systems and piggyback engine management systems.
