Bad Wheel Well Rust

I live in the rust belt, and my 2007 Honda Accord has the typical rear wheel well rust on both sides.

Has anyone here had this body work done before? What is the typical cost?

Also, are there any "Poor Man" solutions, like wheel well covers or something that could be installed over top ? I don't really care about this car, its a scratched up beater with 240,000 km that I'm planning to drive to 300,000 km's and then plan to dump it, but the rust really bugs me.

It has a great 4 cylinder reliable motor though!

The worst part about rust is that it's usually 3-4 times more extensive than what you can see... for every inch of visible rust, there's at least another four hidden under paint and body sealer.

Quick and dirty repair would be like Toestr said - grind down the obvious stuff, use rust converter to seal off the rust, Bondo over the rough bits, and sand/paint. It'll look good for maybe a year until it starts to bubble/fall apart again, then it'll look worse than it did. 🙂

The proper way is thousands of dollars and probably a month at the bodyshop - they don't like doing rust repairs and it'll get put on the backburner while they do lucrative insurance repair jobs.

Can't help you with the current one, but getting Krown or RustCheck every year goes a long way. All 3 of our cars have minimal rust and 2 of them are 20+ years old.
