Next to paintball , i do luv camping. So now i try to do both in a weekend. Best of both worlds. Like the camper! Happy trails .

I've been wanting a camper for many years. But my wife wants a fully-loaded one, which is expensive. And I also don't want to pay for/to feed the truck that would be needed to pull it (I drive an older Ranger).

So I have two small trailers. I'm debating on if I should build a small camper on one of them and just use it for me & my boys.

I was looking at a pop-up for that reason. Life is probably getting in the way this year but I will have one soon - just a nice place to sleep that stays dry and lets you walk around a bit if the weather turns bad.

EvilCreature I do look at pop-ups from time to time but both my Rangers are 4cyl. models and are only rated for just over 2000lbs. And I have two small trailers as it is, so if I can save a bunch of money constructing one myself I might give it a try. Some of the homemade tiny campers and pickup/topper campers I've seen on Youtube look pretty nice, lol.

13’ Scamp (or likely any fiberglass camper at that size) can be towed by the 4 banger… but they’re small for more than two family members and expensive as f.

CAMPING!

We bought our camper from my wife's aunt, just payed it off with our tax return.... So naturally something broke. Nothing major.

We have all absolutely loved it so far, these pictures are from our last trip to the Washington State international kite festival (WSIKF) in long Beach. Had an absolutely blast and we are going back this next year.

Bought a Scamp last year because I was tired of not fulfilling dreams. Honestly, towing mind of sucks and camper life is like boat life— always fixing something… BUT

It’s super cool have a place to go when it rains, with a bed, and being able to poop in your little home.

i considered a popup for a long time, but at the end of the day, I just kind of determined they’re just big expensive tents. I looked at a few 13’ Scamps too without the bathroom (they also come with), but I realized buying a camper without a toilet defeated one of the biggest reasons to have a camper.

All in all, anything is better than the tent life at this stage of the game. However, upon further soul searching, I think I’d have preferred a bus or van. The downside, of course, being… you can’t just disconnect and drive somewhere.


I’ll make a better determination of if this life is for me or not after this year. Love it in theory, but there’s a lot of stresses that come with it, especially living in New England.

I love this thing. I'd probably opt for the next size smaller for my Ranger though. And yeah, per your comment above, they're pricey.

Problem is my wife wants a full bathroom. Like you, she says there's no point in having a camper w/o a bathroom. I'd rather not deal with a shit pipe. Less to go wrong.

But she also doesn't know what it takes to pull a camper. She was showing me campers online once, and asked "What's 5th wheel?" To pull a camper that'd be acceptable to her I'd need a F150/1500 w/a V8, minimum. F that. I'll leave her at home, lol.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm used to camping in my truck. I made a sleeping platform & stash my stuff underneath. Simplicity is king.

When I’m traveling solo the Big Agnes Crag Lake SL 2 is a good balance of size, weight, and durability.

I’ve been making it out on 2-3 BWCA and/or Superior Hiking Trail trips a year for a few years now.

Me and the wife camped across the US last year and eastern Canada the year before.. Upgraded to a big Nemo tent for the next trip which is to alaska. We really wanted an RV but found them to be too limiting when going into national parks out west like the black hills area. We almost bought a 15ft trailer at the RV expo in Springfield last month but we decided to give renting another trip at least. We did by a much bigger vehicle to make the long journeys in though. Really sucked driving across the country with two medium dogs and all our gear stuffed into a Chevy Trax.

My wife and I bought a 2015 Rpod rp179, used, right before covid made camper values skyrocket. Like many campers of the vintage, it was all brown inside.

We put vynil flooring down, gutted the u shaped dinette for a more couple friendly couch, painted the counter tops and table, put stick on tile and wall papers on, re upholstered the window shade covers, put foam white trim in, and made a custom shade for the kitchenette window. It's much more my wife's style now. There are many flaws in our work, but it's our space. ( wallpapers a kidney shaped confined space should be an Olympic sport.

It's 20.5 feet, 28xx lbs dry, 3200 lbs wet. It doesn't pull the best, but it's a perfect camper for the adventuring couple with a dog. There is a wet bath in there but it's not much. Pretty much a toilet fo r not having to walk to the community potty at 2 am.
