    Late too the party...

With work issues I always suggest documenting what you can. Ink on paper or electronic records. Dates, times, behavioral, cell phone video or pics.

If someone calls your integrity into question you have receipts.

This is huge. I work in the legal industry and hugely important to keep records like this. Trying to figure out things after the fact is way too hard.

Since working from home is feasible, I suggesting ignoring the whole labeling of time thing and focus on the facts that (1) y'all are falling behind and (2) you think he's not pulling his weight.

And I'll second the advice given that you should
    • get as much as you can on some sort of record. (before you video/audio record anything, check local laws... lean more into texts/emails)
    • definitely talk to him first to communicate your concerns (1 & 2 above) while doing what you can to not sound threatening or angry. I find that 'matter of fact' works best.
    • Don't be afraid to escalate if communication doesn't work. It's your ass on the line here. If your employer thinks it's imperative for you to be in office, tell them to add RFID access to the office so that they can monitor when people come and go - or cameras if they need to be damn sure. I'd be surprised if they didn't already have them to be honest.
    • Be open to the idea that this guy is working remotely outside of the time he's in office. If he's putting in the hours, that all that really matters. If you feel he's not, then discuss it with him for sure.
Good luck to you. Cover your own ass first - and take that sense of 'snitching' behind the barn, because that's the kind of dishonesty that gets good people fired for cause. Ain't nobody worth risking your families income over.

LOL, hell no. Just funny that in my head I was gonna talk to my coworker had he been there and barring him being there, would have talked to my boss. Both of them have been out all week.....wait a minute maybe they are together

Also, calling out for the day is different than pretending that you are there but really aren't. I would just talk to your boss and say look, I don't want to be that guy or cause strife between any of us but... and let her know what's happening. Let her address it. Ultimately that's what her job is. If she decides to ignore it, at least you know she's ok with it.

I had a co-worker who I am 99% certain had a second job and was doing nothing at our company. I addressed it with my our boss and he reluctantly addressed it months later and eventually they let both of them go. But that guy definitely wasn't working and we are all remote.

LMAO. An update. Co-worker showed up before I got there today. I get to work between 5 and 5:15. He left at 11:30 though. Not my concern. He was there and that was my complaint. If he keeps showing up, Ill pretend this was all a bad dream.
Do hard things for fun. Being soft is for sissies. Being an asshole is easy, thats why everyone is one. Being stand up us hard. Be a hard bastard but be respectful.

I'll echo a previous post and say that it isn't your job to keep tabs on whether they are remote or not. If you decide to escalate, make sure you focus on actual tangible impacts (any missed deadlines, poor-quality work, additional work that you picked up, etc).
