Police said I wasn't at fault, my poor civic is almost certainly totaled though so I've been scrolling FB marketplace in the meantime.

Cant go wrong with another Honda or Toyota. I have had both, 99 civic had 235k when I sold it. Still purring and running like new. I so miss that one, stick shift. 2007 yaris has 180k miles and still no issues. Both just basic upkeep, no major issues.

I was thinking if I was going to buy a new car i would look at Hyundai. But I been reading that after 100k they start having major issues.

I would never get a Volkswagen again. I had a Jetta. At not even 90k it started to develop knocking from the engine, AC pump went out and sun roof was stuck open. I was going to have to spend around 3,500 to fix it all.

Hyundai has a great warranty but goodluck getting a replacement. My dad had a Santa Cruz and the transmission died after 9 months. Took 6 months to get a replacement and no loaner car.

They just want 12 volts to move thw piston back and forth. If you're really handy, you dont need software.

Can't go wrong with a Honda or Toyota but I can honestly also highly recommend a Mazda. Had a Mazda 3 manual and put almost 300k of abusive miles on it and it was bullet proof. Replaced a clutch and a motor mount in that time. Lady I sold it to is still driving it. Have heard good things about Subaru but never owned one

Used to have an '05 mazda3 hatch in phantom purple, it was my first car and I loved it but the ABS pump died and it didn't make sense to buy a $600 pump for a $2000 car where the rear end was 90% rust.

Yeah I have heard the same about Mazda. My friend has had 2 Subarus, swears by them. If you get a stick, that's a damn good anti theft build for most ppl now days. Sucks that most manufacturers ow days only do stick shift in their higher sporty models.

Can't go wrong with a subaru if you ask me. I've had several over the years and have been quite happy with all of them, convinced my the majority of my family to get subarus themselves. I'm Currently driving a 2019 crosstrek, 6spd manual and it's been a dream

Glad you are able to walk away. Monitor yourself as injuries may spring up well after the accident has occurred.

I still have a 99’ Infinity G20 435K miles. Stick. Still going strong. Just spent 3K for bearings and axles at the dealer. Worth every penny.

Don’t buy new. Unless you are financially responsible.

I don’t understand why paying for repairs(not an accident in your case) seems like a waste of money, when buying a brand new car that is well over 50K makes sense to most people. They don’t even pay cash for it. Financing makes the price more like 75K.

Looking at used cars on marketplace, my family does all of the maintenance ourselves and insurance will almost certainly total this car because it was 8k when we bought it

Also, I completely agree with the buying used part. Doing maintenance yourself saves a ton of money (did the right front wheel bearing on the civic over the summer with my dad for $120 and four hours) and financing a new car that usually has complicated systems, useless gimmicks, a massive screen in the middle, and generally worse user interface buttons, knobs, and switches compared to older cars makes me really turn away from them

My brother's new Impreza hatchback is a base model, and for some reason Subaru decided to have an upper screen for the radio, backup cam, and other stuff, and then the lower screen exclusively for air conditioning and misc stuff. Makes zero sense and I hate it.

I would have more money for paintball if I knew how to do my own maintenance.

1K was for parts 2K was for labor. Worth every penny.

          Glad you’re alright!

What’s your ballpark budget for getting a replacement?

My last three ā€œdaily driversā€ have been Subarus with manual transmissions (two WRX’s and a BRZ), and the experience has been pretty good. No maintenance issues, good gas mileage, and fun to drive.

Looking at stickshift cars for under $10k and under 120k miles, found a 2014 Impreza hatch for 5 grand with 111k that might be interesting.

(afore mentioned 2017 Impreza had a rebuilt title which is a no-go after hearing about the damage, seller was also sketch)

Check the dealership used car lot, especially ask them on cars that were returned on lease. Most of those are 2-4yrs old low mileage. And most of those ppl get all the maintenance done at the dealership. So they will have those records.

When I bought my 99 civic, I bought it new, first new car. I paid 15,500 for it. They had some upgraded stuff to it, tires, trim, tail. The following week my brother was looking for a car toom we went to the same dealership and actually stopped by their used car lot. They had the same civic I had bought, just 2yrs older with 30k on it. They wanted 8k for it. I so would have bought that if I had seen it.

Who would pay 8K for a 97’ Honda Civic with 30K miles right now? Me. Yes.

sonixr7 yeah I would for sure buy any Honda with 30k miles even 97 now. But that 97 I saw was back in 99, when I bought the 99.

Sorry to hear it, glad you’re ok. šŸ‘

          freakin’ CT driving man.

I drive a 2013 Mazda3 and it just rolled over 205k miles and I’ve never had to do anything to it outside of maintenance and only recently wear parts. (Suspension stuff.) Not sure if I’m lucky or if Mazda is just that good, but I love it.

I have been car shopping a little bit… but nothing new catches my eye stylistically & I’m trying to avoid anything CVT.

Anyways, if you’re looking for older car, as mentioned above, you really can’t beat the Toyotas and Hondas.
