Police said I wasn't at fault, my poor civic is almost certainly totaled though so I've been scrolling FB marketplace in the meantime.
Got T-boned about 4 hours ago, any new car suggestions?

Cant go wrong with another Honda or Toyota. I have had both, 99 civic had 235k when I sold it. Still purring and running like new. I so miss that one, stick shift. 2007 yaris has 180k miles and still no issues. Both just basic upkeep, no major issues.
I was thinking if I was going to buy a new car i would look at Hyundai. But I been reading that after 100k they start having major issues.
I would never get a Volkswagen again. I had a Jetta. At not even 90k it started to develop knocking from the engine, AC pump went out and sun roof was stuck open. I was going to have to spend around 3,500 to fix it all.

Can't go wrong with a Honda or Toyota but I can honestly also highly recommend a Mazda. Had a Mazda 3 manual and put almost 300k of abusive miles on it and it was bullet proof. Replaced a clutch and a motor mount in that time. Lady I sold it to is still driving it. Have heard good things about Subaru but never owned oneComment

Used to have an '05 mazda3 hatch in phantom purple, it was my first car and I loved it but the ABS pump died and it didn't make sense to buy a $600 pump for a $2000 car where the rear end was 90% rust. -
Yeah I have heard the same about Mazda. My friend has had 2 Subarus, swears by them. If you get a stick, that's a damn good anti theft build for most ppl now days. Sucks that most manufacturers ow days only do stick shift in their higher sporty models.

Can't go wrong with a subaru if you ask me. I've had several over the years and have been quite happy with all of them, convinced my the majority of my family to get subarus themselves. I'm Currently driving a 2019 crosstrek, 6spd manual and it's been a dreamComment

Glad you are able to walk away. Monitor yourself as injuries may spring up well after the accident has occurred.
I still have a 99ā Infinity G20 435K miles. Stick. Still going strong. Just spent 3K for bearings and axles at the dealer. Worth every penny.
Donāt buy new. Unless you are financially responsible.
I donāt understand why paying for repairs(not an accident in your case) seems like a waste of money, when buying a brand new car that is well over 50K makes sense to most people. They donāt even pay cash for it. Financing makes the price more like 75K.My CollectionComment

Looking at used cars on marketplace, my family does all of the maintenance ourselves and insurance will almost certainly total this car because it was 8k when we bought it
Also, I completely agree with the buying used part. Doing maintenance yourself saves a ton of money (did the right front wheel bearing on the civic over the summer with my dad for $120 and four hours) and financing a new car that usually has complicated systems, useless gimmicks, a massive screen in the middle, and generally worse user interface buttons, knobs, and switches compared to older cars makes me really turn away from them
My brother's new Impreza hatchback is a base model, and for some reason Subaru decided to have an upper screen for the radio, backup cam, and other stuff, and then the lower screen exclusively for air conditioning and misc stuff. Makes zero sense and I hate it.

Glad youāre alright!
Whatās your ballpark budget for getting a replacement?
My last three ādaily driversā have been Subarus with manual transmissions (two WRXās and a BRZ), and the experience has been pretty good. No maintenance issues, good gas mileage, and fun to drive.Check out my YouTube channel for overview videos of the WGP Karnivor and WGP Orracle!

Check the dealership used car lot, especially ask them on cars that were returned on lease. Most of those are 2-4yrs old low mileage. And most of those ppl get all the maintenance done at the dealership. So they will have those records.
When I bought my 99 civic, I bought it new, first new car. I paid 15,500 for it. They had some upgraded stuff to it, tires, trim, tail. The following week my brother was looking for a car toom we went to the same dealership and actually stopped by their used car lot. They had the same civic I had bought, just 2yrs older with 30k on it. They wanted 8k for it. I so would have bought that if I had seen it.Comment

sonixr7 yeah I would for sure buy any Honda with 30k miles even 97 now. But that 97 I saw was back in 99, when I bought the 99.Comment

Sorry to hear it, glad youāre ok. š
freakinā CT driving man.
I drive a 2013 Mazda3 and it just rolled over 205k miles and Iāve never had to do anything to it outside of maintenance and only recently wear parts. (Suspension stuff.) Not sure if Iām lucky or if Mazda is just that good, but I love it.
I have been car shopping a little bit⦠but nothing new catches my eye stylistically & Iām trying to avoid anything CVT.
Anyways, if youāre looking for older car, as mentioned above, you really canāt beat the Toyotas and Hondas.Comment
