I can’t believe I waited this long to see it. I finally saw it last night on Netflix. I really enjoyed it. If you haven’t seen it yet: watch it!

I have watched it a few times it’s so good. I’m a huge Carroll Shelby fan. I have actually been tossing around the idea of a Superformance MK3R build to replace my 1992 NSX. I been considering selling it since Honda is getting stingy with parts for it (250% mark up in the last year). That’s before tariffs.

Hell yeah man, I always loved the Cobras, obviously not just the GT350 & GT500 Mustangs — but the two seater roadster.
I didn’t know you had an NSX. Thats so dope!
I did wonder if Cobra the custom PB shop drew inspiration from the car shop. There are some similarities between them aside from the name and logo. They were both innovative, relatively small, successful custom shops that had close ties to an industry leader / manufacturer. Both shops had proven themselves in the pro circuit. I couldn’t help but think about this when they showed the (Shelby) Cobra shop in the movie — with the cool banners hanging in the background. Only difference being obviously that the car market is infinitely bigger — and prestigious, But there were some cool similarities, IMO. -
Yeah I have owned it since I was 19 years old. I really don’t want to sell it but with the price of parts I want something I can get parts easily in the US. The MK3R is basically a Modern twist on the classic design. Independent suspension big willwood breaking system if I do it will be with a 6speed with overdrive for the highway and a coyote motor. 500whp in a 2500 lb car will give it a crazy power to weight ratio. I know I will kick myself for selling the NSX but I want something that I can get parts for and people are already scalping parts. It would be 30k to put the JDM Transmission I have in mine today. Motors are like 40k now. I would K swap it if I ever blew it up. But just BS maintenance parts are insane. Mine needs nothing right now but the price gouging going on right now has me worried to put milage on it.

It's great, and I'm not even really a car guy.
The book, Go Like Hell (AJ Baime), is great too - a little more honest/ nuanced, since it has the time to explain, and just as exciting.
Edit: fixed the title of the book and added the author so you can actually find it.Last edited by flyweightnate; 01-05-2026, 07:11 PM.Feedback

Funny but I did not see it until the other day either and it is definitely an amazing movie...
Christian Bale is friggin next level actor... 'From Empire of the Sun" to this, not many actors today that are at his level.

I’d love to see a movie on the Porsche 917k as well. After Ford’s dominance in 1966-1969 with the GT40, came Porsche’s first Le Mans win with the 917k in 1970, the 917k was also a herculian effort by a manufacturer, and the 917k was said to be a terrifying car to drive. And Porsche has since won the most races as a manufacturer with 19 since their first in 1970.
Maybe it wouldn’t be as epic from mainstream America’s perspective, but Hollywood seems to be in full decadence and out of ideas. Maybe they should make more car movies illustrating the rich history of motorsports. I can see some worldwide success if executed well like this one was.Comment

Porsche was always a drivers car they earned that window maker name. Snap oversteer made them very spicy to drive at limit. You let up they would spin caught a lot of people off guard. People would get scared going in to hot let off and it was difficult to catch especially when you didn’t know it was coming. But you could make them dance with the right skill set.
I always wanted a 930 turbo almost had one many years ago but the deal that was too good to be true was too good to be true. Drove 6 hrs for one but the guy tried passing a replica off as an original.

Chuck E Ducky I would drop a 2JZ GTE in the NSX before a K. I mean, yes, the K 20 & 24
are legendary, but the 2JZ GTE twin turbo would do the NSX justice. Even if it’s a Toyota engine. People drop 2JZ’s in everything (and rightfully so).
My pride and joy in my early twenties was an IS300 with a GTE twin turbo swap. I was doing 750+ whp at 20 pounds (modestly) and even then: I blew the lexus 5 speed tranny and had to swap the Supra 6 sp.
If you were to list the NSX today, how much are
they going for? I know they have appreciated quite a bit and not just due to inflation.Comment

I’m looking at around 80k in the condition and JDM mods I have a ton of NSX-R mods. Mine is super clean and all the maintenance is up to date. The mods it has are OEM+ and I have all the stock parts of someone wanted it all original. Low mileage clean examples are in the 100k+ range.
A built K20A Turbo can make 500whp and will bolt in with off the shelf kits. It’s around the same weight and torque curve. It can also be built to high RPM like the NSX and 1/8th the price. Pre wired kits for super clean installation.Comment
