I need a cheap beater. Are old cars still a good deal?

Checked out this 1999 Camaro yesterday. I really liked it. Seemed like it could be a good daily. Mechanic owned, who only buys these catfishes to fix up and sell. Price is a little high, but not absurd. $5,990 turned into $7,482 OTD. It's an option.

Agree with the others that have suggested a Mazda 3. Have an 06 hatchback with 145K miles that is truly still fun to drive and the only real issue with it is the paint at this point. Parts are cheap when you need them as well.
