I figured since I'm this far in, I might as well get rid of that old ugly cast iron exhaust manifold that more than likely has either one crack or ten. I bought this MAP cast SS manifold slightly used, but in perfect condition. New studs, bolts, and gaskets are on the way. This will all help me out later when I replace the turbo with a modest 55mm turbo, but thats another project entirely.

love the progress. its neat to see where cars came from and where we are now. Exhaust manifolds are largely non existent at this point. lol

For these Evos, exhaust manifold are basically mandatory. These old cast ones all crack eventually. I'm curious to see how mine held up this long.

was referring to how allot of modern cars have the exhaust manifold cast directly into the cylinder head. on my 2.0t it looks like the turbo bolts directly to the head rather than a manifold... stuff like that on modern cars still blows my mind.

New valve cover and some titanium bolts. I colored them blue using a baking soda bath and a scrap piece of titanium, with about 20v DC.

The turbo and exhaust manifold are finally out, after more broken bolts and hurt feelings. I can finally drop the transmission and install the ACT clutch kit.

Oh and my side skirt fell off today. Its always 2 steps forward, 3 steps back with this car.

Finally a nice day outside and I have some time. I got the transfer case and transmission dropped out. Just gotta start cleaning and reassemble everything.
