Have you ever had a PVC joint fail?

I have not. I don't know if that is luck, or if the process is magic.

I had to dig up a sprinkler line and fix it where some contractors obviously broke it and left it. The actual joint was no problem. The dig for the damage and multiple runs to the hardware store were a pita though.

The prime, glue and stab it together thing is neat.

There's a couple reasons why it would fail, usually freezing, or a plant root very close could eventually pop a fitting. Even driving over it can cause a failure.

Also, working in construction, I have seen joints and fittings fail even after an extended pressure test. Could be anything from bad installation to factory defects, to some dumbass driving a screw through it.

Yeah, the contractors pried it up with a shovel and broke the pipe on the top and bottom. They laid their pipe under it and covered it all up.

I had an ABS joint fail if that is relevant. Upon closer inspection, not enough glue had been applied. It was the exhaust stack that went to the roof, and the roofers who installed the new membrane on my flat roof probably had to wiggle it to get the job done. Fast forward a month to a monsoon-like rainstorm, and my kitchen ceiling was done.

      PVC no, knees yes.

I've only seen pvc fail if the installation was bad and it leaked from the start.
