    Travel Trailers (Scamp)

Does anyone here have a travel trailer/ camper?
Any scamps? Or other FG options?

    what are your thoughts?

I do appreciate a good scamp or Casita trailer. But the ultralight style trailers typically lack a bathroom, which we decided we want for rainy camping trips. No one likes to have to get dressed for a 2 am poo. There are a few UL options these days, but it seems they yield a premium cost. Seems lowering the tow vehicle requirements on trailers increases their market. I'd recommend also poking at pods as they can be pretty light even not being fg. And or finding an older used scamp or Casita if FG is a must.

My wife and I went with an Rpod for our trailer. 2015 RP179 to be exact. It was the right combo of requirements for us. Being an aluminum trailer, its 3000lbs with the tanks full, 2800 dry. Meaning its pretty easy to pull even if we had an SUV.

The layout is nice at 21.5' with the kitchen at the tail end, and the bed at the nose, you arent cooking next to the bed like in most other small trailers. It has a cheesy half bath in the middle for when you need it, and it has a u shaped dinette across from the bathroom. We gutted our dinette and made it a couch, but it serves the same purpose.

I ALMOST bought an older scamp that was a gooseneck. The bed was on the gooseneck so it really opened the floor plan up for a small fg trailer. They are such cool trailers, but again. That one also didn't have a bathroom which is a must for me, even a tiny cheapo bathroom, I just don't want to be forced to go outside every time.

I will say. When you do find one you think you like. Try to imaging living out of it. We also almost bought a winnebago minnie winnie also. It was honestly the trailer we went to see when we bought the r pod. It was a few feet shorter than the rpod we got...It was also a few less thousands of dollars. It literally had no storage inside. Our sales lady pointed that out after we got into it.. Which prompted a great upsell that I don't regret at all, lol.

All in all, I'm not a ton of help in the FG specific life. I appreciate those trailers, but I didn't end up owning one.

And I want to say. When we camp, we are usually doing stuff. Hiking, biking, shopping. The camper is basically for sleep, breakfast, dinner, and 2am potty breaks.

My folks have a Scamp. It seems like a really nice lightweight camper and I don’t think it was outrageously expensive.

But at this point in my life I exclusively tent camp, so even an ultralight camper seems like a palace to me 🤣

Wife and I got a pop up camper last year.

On our first trip one of the wheels fell off while going 75mph.... On the fourth of July

Lesson: don't over torque the studs

Overall it's been fun. We haven't been able to get it out more than a few times though

I have been looking at Pop-UPs and small travel trailers lately. After selling my 1993 F350 CC/SRW/LB that I had a pretty good camping setup for the bed with an Camper Shell, I have not figured out as comfortable way to use my new to me Nissan Armada. So thinking about getting something small and light to tow for camping/paintball big games/scenarios. I like the idea of something at least with some form of toilet, so Pop-Ups seem to be fairly friendly that way. I have looked at the SCAMPs and there are a lot of things about them that are appealing especially the solid construction.

Along that same line, you can get some pop up campers that have single piece all aluminum roofs so the only hole in the whole roof is the skylight/vent. I didn't know that before we got ours so we got lucky that ours is all one piece.

I have little girls so the toilet was pretty much a necessity.

I am going between the Scamp and the Sunlite 13br ltd.
Scamp is more primitive, more money, and seemingly better construction.
          Sunlite is the opposite.

I was really learning towards a 16’ scamp because of the seating in addition to a bed, but 13’ is far more budget friendly.

I wouldn’t get a pop up simply because they’re basically just a tent as wheels, but they are cool for what they are.

I have been looking at the Scamp 16' with one of the layouts with the Shower/Toilet up front. My wife does not go camping with me so I do not need the extra seating but I like the layouts of the 16' and I drive a full-size SUV with good towing rating so towing will not be an issue. I look at used travel trailers almost daily but a lot of them are bigger then I need.
