    I've a friend who is on the board of an observatory near town. The observatory is actually on his property.

    I asked him how would the lights look from an airplane? "Funny you should ask." he said.

    I'm in the Pacific Northwest, I probably won't see a clear sky for another 4-5 months. If I'm lucky I'll get some breaks in the clouds and can see them but I'm not betting on it. The sight line is right about where I live as well so it's iffy if I would even get to see them if it was clear.

    I'm enjoying all the photos though

      So, according to people who follow aurora's closer than me, we had an extremely large solar storm hit late yesterday afternoon, however the polarity was unfavorable for a light show. I was still able to get out and catch some on camera, it was pretty faint to the naked eye.
