Anybody into canvas tents?

Is anybody else here into canvas tents?

My wife and I have a REI Base Camp 4 for normal camping and I have a one person if I want to pack super light.

But when we want extra space we have a 12x12 Selkirk from the wall tent shop. It weighs a ton, but sometimes it’s nice to have the space, I can set it up easily alone (maybe 45 min) and with the stove I’ve camped pretty comfortably with temperatures in the mid 20’s at night.

In scouts, we had several of the army surplus platoon tents, they were like a 12 sided round thing with one big center pole. Heavy as all get out, but great for keeping the bigger gear out of the rain/snow.

I don't travel to many campsites where a truck and trailer can get to anymore.
My wife and I picked up a rooftop tent to throw on our Land Cruiser.
It's made off 400g ripstop canvas and beefy.
One of the best investments we've made for our rig.

Here it is set up at our campsite in Rubicon Springs.
Buddy next to us has one as well but his rig is facing the other direction.

The road into and out of the Rubicon is considered by many to be one of the toughest trails in the world.
My rig has 38" tires on it to give you reference against the terrain.....

I don't camp socially much - almost entirely primitive camping off fire roads accessed by motorcycle these past 10 years - but I've seen a few of these canvas tents in the wild. I always thought you guys must be setting up for a long stay. Wood stoves? Chimneys? Man... that is nice, but I'm in and out in under 9 hours most of the time, including SSS and breakfast. Even if I were car camping, that's a lot of gear, setup, and tear down. It'd have to be a week+ for me to go to that much trouble.

Yeah, that’s the downside. I like my Selkirk, but for short 1-2 night trips I’ll take my regular tent.

I would like to get a smaller canvas tent. Like maybe an 8x8 range tent or a smaller A-frame, although the smallest A-frame canvas tent I can find is the 12x10 Montana canvas, and that’s still huge.

Me and my gf purchased a kodiak canvas 12x9 cabin tent about a year ago, we absolutely love it! Completely waterproof, well insulated, easy and quick to set up, plenty of space and head room. I'll never go back to a synthetic dome tent! The only draw back is how heavy that sucker is but for truck camping it's no big deal.

Have been eyeing the kodiak tents for a couple years, for family camping, but haven’t pulled the trigger just yet since it’s a bit of an investment. Looks like a pretty decent option, and priced a bit better than the springbar brands. Any particular reason you did the 12x9 option vs the flexbow models. Am interested in both.

I went with the cabin over the flex bow because of the head room. I also liked the classic style better, but both are nice tents

One of the brands that my company sells is the Alaska Tent and Tarp / Arctic Oven tents. I'm not a big truck camping or "big" tent guy as I normally pack just a backpacking tent and do backpacking or light fly out camping but the wall tents look great. I've spent quite a few nights in one of the Tent and Tarp canvas wall tents and they are super comfortable with just a small wood stove for heat. Keep one out at the moose hunting camp on the Yukon river. For emplaced camps that will stay out for a while and possibly unattended they are a great option.
