    Single Hand Spey Setup

Anyone dabble in this realm? Recently picked up a 4wt 10' Helios D with Mirage LT reel, and was debating building a setup on the spare spool. Been looking at both OPST Commando and SA Spey Lite options. Seems intriguing/something a little different from "regular" overhand fly fishing. Just curious if anyone has their $.02 to share!

I use a 8wt 11' Buela Switch rod with OPST Commando. I have few different lines but that has worked the best. I rarely overhead cast because I kinda suck. Since I am now on the East Coast, it is used in flowing intercoastal waterways.

I have an 8wt 10' Sage FLi from a while back I was considering doing this to as well. Are you running the Commando Smooth/integrated, or separate head and running line?

Im running the Commando with 40 gr. S2 Riffle tip. Lazar line running line. I have a set of Rio sink tips As well. These are the two I have had the best luck with using a Switch using mostly spey techniques. Click image for larger version

Also, I will add while thinking about it now. If your 4wt has the support and flex in the handle I would highly recommend its a long flat and amazing presentation. I dont know if you have done spey techniques but I practiced in my backyard using a golf tee to "anchor" my lure in the grass when i went through my trials and tribulations trying to get my first new switch rod dialed in. I have only used a 1 handed rod a few times in my life which resulted in the beaded head striking the tip and breaking a rod.
