Made my first YouTube video on the Mechanical Orracle

A while back a thread here had me thinking about markers from the early 2000’s being over 20 years old now, and folks may not know much about them anymore.

So I tried my hand at making a video about mechanical WGP Orracles.

Certainly not all inclusive with the information since I was trying to strike a balance between being overwhelming, yet still being relatively detailed.

It’s my first YouTube video, so constructive feedback is definitely welcome.

If general consensus is that the quality is acceptable some other ideas I have for videos are:

-Black Magic variations (full, fastback, mini, Worrlock, side feed, and halfblock) since I have them all.
    -Overview of the E-Orracle
-Overview of the 2005 Black Magic
-Overview of the Jeff Orr Limited edition

I think its great. Has a old school vibe to the video production itself. The gameplay footage looks nice and I liked that you could hear a little bit of the action.

On some of the stills it may be nice to do a slow zoom to add to the visual interest and help hold attention.

Thanks for doing this. I've been craving more in-depth overviews and histories of paint guns on youtube as there's not really a lot out there.

One critique I can give is the audio quality for the voice-over could be better. It's not terrible, but it lacks that professional quality that is common on youtube these days and some viewers will find this to be a turn off.

However, the overall sound levels are just right. Love the shots of old ads and guns on the turntable as well as gameplay footage sprinkled in too. The video has a good vibe to it. Well done. I've subscribed and looking forward to more!

There were definitely some lessons learned.

Early on I bought an actual photographer portrait style light and an attachment to mount my phone to my regular camera tripod so I could get decent pictures of the markers.

Overall it took much longer to put together than I expected it to. If I had to estimate I’d say each min of video was about an hour of work (not counting field time). Lots of cropping pictures, trimming videos, looking up articles, writing out the script, and each voiceover averaged maybe 3-4 takes. It was also 100% put together using iMovie on my phone, which seemed to work well for the most part. It’s just a small screen to do that kind of project on.

At first I thought the background music was cool, but after working with it for several hours I got incredibly sick of it. 🤣

It seemed like every field I went to in the early 2000s always had something like Red Hot Chili Peppers, GreenDay, or sum 41 playing in the background, so I thought about using that, but I wasn’t sure if that could lead to copyright issues.

How do most videos get their spoken audio? I used the “voiceover” function in iMovie, and it was difficult to keep the volume and quality consistent.

                  Thank you, I appreciate it!

The last month or two I’ve been working intermittently digging up magazine articles and information for the E-Orracle video.

Mostly what I need right now is good “B-roll” footage shooting E-Orracles to add into the video. If things go as planned I’ll be going to some big games in August and September. It’s possible I may have a finished product sometime in October.

I did also pick up another mostly stock green fade E-Orracle earlier today that I’m hoping to feature in the video.

Great video! I have always liked that format of history video and yours is perfectly executed, IMO. Well done! I cant wait to see what you make next (if you decide to make more, which i hope you do). Now if you will excuse me, i am going to send this video link to a few people.
