    ASA/Remote Line Breaking Tank Regs?

So I picked up this Ion recently, sort of by accident when trying to buy a barrel kit off a guy. It's got one of these old goonish Empire ASA's, the ones without vent ports and take probably about 25 turns to fully engage.

I had borrowed a tank from the field to lend this gun to my friend, and when I went to take the tank off the marker at the end of the day, even though I had completely disengaged the ASA, the tank was still putting out. After letting the tank drain, I found that the pin valve was completely stuck in the open position. I think when the valve pin was damaged, it caused a pressure spike, as there is now a grip frame leak coming from the Ion. I also noticed a couple really hot shots while doing some one-on-one's with my friend, who again was using this gun.

When I brought the tank back to the field owner, he asked me if I was using a remote line, I told him "no" as I wasn't, but here's the question then:

Are these old types of ASA's, or the remote line ASA's known for damaging tank regs? Is this common knowledge in the tech community?

I'd like to know, simply so I can change the ASA if I need to, as to not damage any more tanks. I did notice in testing this gun with my tank that the threads are a little wonky.

If the ASA is giving you issues then I'd change it. I've not heard of an ASA damaging a tank valve pin, unless there was really bad user error, like cranking the snot out of it.
I've got an ASA with really sharp threads, that likes to eat o-rings if you don't thread the bottle on straight, but not a pin issue.

For the remotes you don't need to crank the valve all the way in, just enough to engage the pin and charge the line.

I just ended up only threading it in as far is it has to go to just engage the tank valve and fully gas up the reg. I'll look at replacing it with something from this decade.

      Thanks!
