Advice Wanted on what regulator to use...

CCM regulator on my pump is just not as consistent as I'd like.

TAG Paintball staff told me to get AKA reg.

My (dated) knowledge in my (dated) brain says get Palmers.

    Any advice?

<ship CCM reg back to get rebuilt??>

    Thanks all

Rebuild the reg CCM should be very consistent it’s a great reg. Yours just needs to be serviced / rebuilt. It’s all drop in. Just order and put it back together and sweet spot it. There’s a YouTube video that can walk you threw it. Look up “TF Pumpenstine”

AKA also makes fantastic regs. Arguably the best. Overkill on a pump.

If your reg is inconsistent it probably just needs to be rebuilt. Complete rebuild kits from CCM only cost $25:

The official CCM Paintball online store! Paintball gear directly from the manufacturer. USA MADE.

I didn't realize they just used an o-ring for the reg seat, that's a huge bonus in my book, infinitely rebuildable with easily obtainable rings.

The only thing stopping CCM regs from being the perfect paintball regulator is the ability to swivel the high pressure input. If they came out with a regulator with a swivel I would sell all of my other regulators immediately.

My brother-in-law was a big CCM guy but would have the odd problems with his regs (older CCMs regs at least). I’ve largely used CP regs on all my pumps without any issue. You really can’t go wrong with the AKA Sidewinder regs either.

Only reg I’ve had a problem is my current MacDev Gladiator that I can’t seem to get enough pressure out of.

Palmer's stuff is really only ideal for CO2 use, or the female stab as a bottomline reg. I got creep when using a brand new stab on HPA, and I've heard the same from others.

I've got an AKA SST, and it's performed well in its limited use. They're not available new from AKA, and I've heard things about QC issues with them, but I like mine because it's high performance, and completely rebuildable with orings.

CP is a good price point option, and is basically the industry standard.

Have you tried cleaning and greasing the reg yourself? It's really easy. I wouldn't replace the reg. The CCM regs are good. AKA is supposed to have a better recharge rate, but you don't shoot fast enough to need that with a pump.

I agree that your CCM reg should be sufficiently consistent. If it's not, it either needs a rebuild or you have a problem elsewhere.

If you decide to replace it, AKA is one of the best ways to go. Only downside is that they are not at all fun to take apart. Not the worst by any means, but not at all up to modern standards. Inception Designs regs are a good alternative, though I've never been a huge fan of how they look. CP regs have, in my experience, been subpar. I'd take a stock WGP reg before a CP.

It’s probably your paint not the reg. If you want to know for sure get a quality digital gauge between reg and gun. Check readout between shots across chrono. Will probably see only couple psi swing, but a much larger fps swing. That swing is 99% paint quality.

They get dirty and the seal leaks then they fluctuate input pressure people turn them up thinking it will help mushrooming the small pin when the reg is turned to far in. If you keep them clean and don’t crank the adjustment to far they last a long time. I built a reg tester so I can pull it apart clean it regularly set the pressure back to its sweet spots easily. Saves a lot of time tinkering over the chronograph.

I will move forward on your advice, asap.

Wait! Check one thing before ordering that rebuild kit

I've seen this happen to plenty of bob long torpedos and your ccm is the same schrader valve style

Check the inside of the body and see if the piston has worn a grove in the inner walls. It will be slight but you should be able to feel it with your finger.

If it has, a rebuild kit probably won't help too much as the piston is always going into or out of that grove causing inconsistent output

I haven’t really seen that with the CCM regs even with heavy abuse the top half is delrin. But wouldn’t hurt to check. 99.9% of the time it’s that top pin valve or a seal issue.

As others have said, check out the CCM reg, clean and rebuild it. If it needs to be replaced, a Sidewinder is my choice.

I love AKA regs, but they're overkill on pumps.

I don’t think they’re overkill except price wise I haven’t seen them performing noticeably better than other regs on pumps or otherwise it’s more of an aesthetic concern . If you’re paying money though you might as well pay for an akalmp since their resale is robust
