I cracked open the case on my beloved Impulse from my PB glory days. Under inspection, it was apparent that the reflective eye element solder joints to the flex PCB were a little corroded and joints had broken loose. I cleaned them with baking soda and soldered the joints. Verified continuity and low resistance (0.3 ohm...not exactly low, but they're all equivalent). Sadly the vision system still doesn't work. Everything else looks good. I'm guessing it's the eye element itself. If I'm replacing that, I'd rather get whatever the new-hotness is for reflective eye elements that this board can use. Alternatively, I'm not opposed to replacing the entire board with something that has higher performance. I've seen reference to the Blackheart boards for Impulses in the manual, but never seen one available for purchase.
1) Is there any way to verify that the eye element is the root cause? Guessing I could short two of the pins to create a false positive condition but not sure which two.
2) What replacement options are there?
