Getting Springy With It

I am trying to fix a stubborn T9 at the moment that suffers from a stretched trigger return spring. I just received received my order that is supposed to contain two replacement spring, except they are my the right springs. They are longer versions and they don’t work. This is what happens when I’m too cheap to buy a full repair kit I suppose.

So here lies my question: can I attempt modify my original stretched spring or cut down my new springs or is this a waste of time?

Can’t get parts locally so must be ordered online. Springs only cost $2.00 but shipping and no guarantee they’ll be the proper ones.

First off, I'm not familiar with the T9 at all - just making stuff. You didn't state it, so I'm assuming your busted spring is the one on the bottom. Sadly, I think you have the right part... it just requires modification to be compatible with the gun. What appears to have been done here is that the end on the right was cut shorter than the off-the-shelf part, and the last turn bent 90deg so that it could be used as the hook for the right side. Here's what I suggest:


EDIT: Before the following procedure, reorient the hook on the left to match what yours originally was; best shown in the photo below this post.

1. Count the number of full turns on the spiral portion of the original spring.
2. Add one to that number.
3. Mark the corresponding coil on the new spring. It'll be just short of the end on the right.
4. Clamp the coil in something like a bench vice or vice grips taking care not to squish it. Make sure that the direction you're going to cut into is pushing into one of the jaws.
5. Use a rotary tool with a cutoff disc to make this cut so as not to deform the coil. Go slow enough so as not to deform the coil, but fast enough so as not to impart unnecessary heat.
6. Slide some sheet metal into the last turn on the right side. This will act as something to hold the next to last coil while you perform the next steps.
7. Using another piece of sheet metal into the same slot and use to start plastically deforming the last turn on the right side into the 90deg bend.
8. Once started, switch to something like needle nose pliers that will give you a better grip on the last turn. Complete the 90deg bend.

Followed your instructions and showed the spring who is boss. Used a hacksaw blade instead of a piece of sheet metal, but worked the same. I now have a springy trigger! Not sure if it’s going to least forever, but is a solid good enough and I can modify the 2nd spring if needed.

So it definitely matches my spring (the lower one) and not the new one I was sent (the top one).

They look like the same length. Maybe the top one has a lower spring rate and is a better spring, hence the different style?

Tried it and it doesn’t work. No tension on the spring so the trigger doesn’t work.

I just noticed that the left hook is oriented differently. That'll need to be corrected before trying the procedure I outlined above.

Looking at the latest photo, you were definitely sent the wrong spring.

I made a new spring for my agd 6 pak when the original wasn't feeding any longer. Took a lot of trial and error but in the end it feeds great now

Thankfully got the spring to work the first time, which is a rarity. Everything works now and gun is up and running and ready for a new home.
