Best Pods to Avoid a Pod Apocalypse?

I am a big fan of the HK army lock lid pods lately.

Love my fat boys, but I'm happy to let you try one of my lock lids at wasaga this big game? After I wipe it down with a Health Canada approved sanitizer of course. I've also heard nothing but good things about the HK pods.

I have had bad luck with some old diablo and gxg pods wearing out lids over time, but they are cheap as dirt, so no complaints really. I always load up my whole mixed bag of pods for a quick turn around in staging and tend to go for them last or just use them to top up my hopper.

The lock lids fit both my NXE pack and Spec Ops broad sword vest, and I've never had an issue with the buttons.

Whatever was left behind on the field during clean up days. Other then APP Tac Pods I'm not sure I have ever bought a pod in 30+ years. I either got them while buying something else (paintball lot) or they were pods left behind and not claimed. Never really had issues with any pod that was in reasonable shape.

I've had the same set of Fat Boy pods since 1999. They're nearly indestructible.

That’d be great if i could test a dye lock lid once we’re there, and see if it fits my valken echo vest, cheers!! Would be great to know they actually fit if i decide to spring for some premium priced pods

To be honest most of this sounds self inflicted. #1 Buying a pod too cheap to take a hit, #2 just being to sloppy with a sloppy old pod, and #3...sounds almost like you’re sitting on your paint?

I think if you buy any modern pod from one of the majors and you’re a little more steady handed with it you won’t have any problems.

I agree with this. I've been using the plain GXG tubes for several years now & never accidentally dumped one. They lock very securely & seem more durable than other generic tubes. That said, I'm thinking about picking up some Dye Alphas. They look pretty good & I want something a bit more colorful.

The Empire/JT tubes with the channeled 3-tab setup seem pretty good (have 1 in the basement), but I think the lids are just a bit TOO tight. I don't wanna have to wrench on the lid mid firefight just to get the thing open. Might just be me though.

I've never had an issue with the locking lids on the Dye Locklids. I think they're rather nice. My biggest issue with them is they are simply too large. I don't want to have to run my hopper down to nothing just to be able to fit the whole thing in. If I ran a 220rd hopper, OK then. But I use a Revolution or Dye LTR most of the time, so Locklids are a no-go for the size reason alone. They are LARGE.

I have zero complaints about the Dye Alpha pods, they are a solid product. The 3-tab Empire/JT pods are decent, but the lid opening force seems inconsistent. I've never had one be too tight like you described, but I have had many pop open too easy and lose paint, but a lot of them are just fine. I only avoid them due to this inconsistency.

Dye proto alphas are the best pods I've ever seen. I used to be a die hard Fatboy guy and these are the same but better and I have access to a full case of fatboys. The alphas obsolete them in every aspect. The rubbery lid is just better.

My wife and I have used APP pods for around 15 years now and have found them to still be secure, granted they do have a wide tab but neither of us have had an issue with them.

personally hate the dye pods. I have seen too many with the tops come off or drop and pop open.

I use the alpha pods and have pretty much stopped picking up any other pods since they have come out. They really are nice. just the right amount of flex and the lids are solid. next pod after that would probably be the gxg pods. I haven't had any issues with those aside from the lids breaking from a weird accident or something.

I would agree with this. ANS has a couple unique color setups as well- I've been using the Smoke w/ Lime Lid and it makes it really easy to know which pods are mine after a long day.

I have had a few instances of broken paint in a pod, but that usually was only after getting bunkered or doing something stupid.

So absorbing all I could from this thread, I decided the more expensive lock lid pods are probably overkill for me so I scooped up some new gxg pods to try out instead. Comparing them to the Proto pods I have, the lid is way more secure, and requires a lot more force to open then then the protos. The protos do seem to hold a bit more paint, so they win on that front. So, i'm going to run with these new gxg pods for now, and I think they'll be just fine.
