Is this tank safe to use?

Never seen this kind of crack on a tank and was not able to find similar tank with crack like this on google

Its for sale on local craiglist (kijiji)
Tank manufactured in 2011. Seller say it was used two weeks ago (not sure if it was hydrotested since 2011...)

If in doubt, send it to hydro ... They'll tell you if it's not safe ...

My 2ct: If were asked to fill this, I wouldn't ...

This is from the batch of ninja and empire tanks that had gel cracking problems. I've seen another (also an empire 56) in similar condition that I was considering buying. There is also currently a ninja tank on Ottawa Kijiji in similar condition for $20. The 56 I was looking at was offered to me for $60. Ninja said these didn't pose a safety issue, but I don't think they were talking about cracks of this size at the time.

I've gotten tanks with cracks like that hydro'd without issue. It looks to just be the gel coat, as long as nothing is unraveling you should be fine.

If it is only the gel coat it is fine, if you can't tell, don't use it. The gel coat protects the actual tank, which you can use a tank cover to protect the actual tank.

It seems like a lot of hassle to me, I wouldn't get it.

This is an excellent point. There can be an important practical difference between a tank that you should be able to use and refill, and a tank that a dubious field/shop employee will readily fill.

Lets rememind everyone that the field is responsible for the fill, if they dont like your tank, they can refuse to fill ... period ...
I have some 2X2 tanks that got turned away ... ended up playing with 12g instead ...

I decided to pass on it specifically for this reason, even if I got it tested it might still be refused later
Also I have seen gel coat crack but never that wide and on the entire surface.
